The top or plate 11 extends above the shell or casing 4, and the annular recess forms a shoulder or seat to rest up'onthe upper edges of the annular member and at the same time p21-ovides a reduced portion to eXtend'iiitothe coneavity or recess 9 so as to interlock the top or plate 1l with the annular member and thereby prevent accidental displacementoffthehfprmer. This tends to keep the combustion chamber free from soot and accumulation. The cracking chamber 3. which receives the kerosene and breaks the same up into a gas, is heated by the heat radiated from the combustion chamber and the gas passes downward through an approximately L-shaped pipe 123 having an upwardly extending vertical arm and an inwardly extending horizontal arm, the vertical arm being threaded at 14 into the bottom of the cracking chamber and the hori zontal arm being provided with a threaded terminal 15 which is connected with a needle valve easing 1G having a threaded opening at one side to receive the horizontal arm of the pi )e 13. The needle valve casing. which pre erably consists of a casting, is equipped with a packing nut 17. and the valve proper 18 consists ot" a rod re duced at the upper portion to form a shoulder 19 and to provide a pin or extension Q0. The extension or needle 2O passes through a jet opening 21 ofthe needle valve easing and is adapted to maintain the same in a clean condition by removing the foreign matter, such as amorphous wax. etc..` from the said opening. The flame in passing out of the burner will remain at the same or approximately the same height any number of hours after the generation of gas in the collecting chamber and it does not vary after the burner has been in operation for some time. as there is no liability1 of the cracking chamber becoming excessively heated owing to the placing of' the combustion chamber over the cracking chamber. This has been found by experience and the device is also rendered easily and cheaply nianufactured owing to the simplification of the construction. Y
The hydrocarbon burner is preferably equipped with a supplemental or auxiliary cap '26 supported above in spaced relation with the defleeting plate 11 by a depending annular flange Q7 which fits in a peripheral recess :28 of the defiecting plate. The super imposed cap is provided with holes 29, and the purpose of the cap is to allow the escaping flame to reach a higher elevation and have a more uniform blue color.
What is claimed is:
1. A hydrocarbon burner including an outer easing. a gas generatingmember removably secured to same. said gas generating member having a central opening therethrough and an. interior chamber surrounding the same. said gas generating member having a concave recess in its upper surface. said chamber being provided with inlet and outlet openings. a detieeting plate supported by and above the gas geul erating member, said deflecting plate having a peripheral recess in its upper surface` and a cap supported in spaced relation to the deflecting plate.
