To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, BRADLEY ELI PIGKETT,

a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Yankton, in the county of Yankton and State of South Dakota,-have'invented new and useful Improvements in'Neck-Pads,

of which the following is a specification.

My'mvention is an improvement in neck pads, and has for its object to provide a pad of the character specified, adapted to be arrangedbetween the collar and the 'hames, for permitting free movement of the hames without rubbing the neck of the draft animal.

"In the present embodimentof the invention, the pad 1, which connects the hames,

is provided with a yoke shaped member comprising a body 2 which is secured to the pad and upstanding arms 3, and the said arms carry a shaft orbolt 4.- A bearing sleeve 5 is mounted on the shaft or bolt, and this bearing sleeve has an up- 7 standing pin (3 to which is riveted a curved bar 7. The connecting strap 8 between the hames 9'rests .upon this bar 7, and the said bar has upstanding lugs 8 at its center, preventing displacement of the strap. The bar also has clips 10 at its end which embrace the strap, to hold it in place, and the ends of the strap engage the usual loops 11 on the hames. v 1

is engaged by a nut 12 to hold it in place. The pad 1 is the ordinary pad usedat the top of the collar where the ends of the collar are connected, and the said pad consists,

as usual, of a leather portion and a metallic portion, the metallic portion being arched and secured to the leather portion as shown in Fig.1, and the pad conforms to the shape of the top of the collar.

In use, the bar 7 may be rocked'upon the shaft 4 or may be moved longitudinally of the said shaft, as indicated "in dotted lines in Fig. 1, or thesa'id bar may swing laterally with respect to the pad, as indicated in dotted-lines in Fig. 2. In fact, the connection between the pad and the bar is a universal joint connection, permitting movement in either direction.

I claim: I

1. In a device ofthe character specified, the combination with the neck pad, of a yoke shaped member comprising a body secured to the pad and upstanding arms, a

' shaft carried bythe arms, a bar having a bearing sleeve engaging the shaft, and a leather connection for the hame supported by the bar, said bearing sleeve being movable longitudinally of the shaft, and the bar being pivoted to the sleeve to permit lateral movement of the bar with respect to the sleeve. I

2. A neck pad adapted to be arranged between the meeting ends ofva collar on the to rock on the rod and to swing laterally with respect thereto.

4. A neck pad, and a rigid bar having means for engaging the hames connecting strap connected with the pad at the top thereof to rockon the pad toswing laterally with respect thereto and to move transversely of the pad.
