5. of North Dakota, have invented certaln new and useful Improvements in Sleds, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to sleds and more particularly to double-runner sleds.
The primary object of the invention is to provide an improved adjusting attachment for permitting the front and rear runners of the sled to be adjusted longitudinally and held rigidly in adjusted position.
A further object of the invention is to provide an adjusting yoke of this character that will permit free movement of the front and rear runners, while the sled is in motion, but will act to retain them in proper alinement so that accidents due to swerving and the like would be obviated.
A further object of this invention is the provision of a sled which consists of comparatively few parts and is simple in construction, but durable and well adapted to withstand the rough usage to which devices of this character are ordinarily subjected.
For a full description of the invention and the advantages and merits thereof, reference is to be had tothe following description and the accompanying drawings, wherein is illustrated the preferred form of my invention, in which;

Referring to the drawing, wherein is illustrated the preferred form of my invention, and in which like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the front runner 1 and the rear runner 2 are each provided with supporting standards 3 upon which is mounted the usual plank 3 for providing seating acthe the line 3-3 of commodations for persons coasting with the sled.
As usual, the forward ends of the runners are turned upwardly and the rear runners 2 receive a flex ble cable or rope 4, the same being also passed through a sultable opening in a draft beam 5. One end of this beam has a plurality of transversely extending openings 6 through any one of which the cable a may be passed.
Fixed to the standard 3, carried by the front runner 1 is a U-bolt 7, the same projecting through the standard and fastened thereto by suitable nuts. Connected to the U-bolt is a yoke 8, shown in detail in Fig. 2, and this yoke consists of thelaterally spaced arms 9 provided with a plurality of transversely alined apertures 10. One end of the yoke has the loop 11 for receiving the U-bolt 7, whereby the yoke may be connected to the standard 3 of the front runner. The distance between the side arms 9 of the yoke is equal to the width of the beam 5, so that the arms 9 may embrace the end of the beam. A plurality of longitudinally spaced openings are formed in the beams, and these are adapted to receive the bolts 12 when the said openings are alined with the openings in the arms 9 of the yoke. Thus, it will be seen, that the distance between the standards 3 of the front and rear runners may be adjusted to any desired length, while assurance will be obtained that the runners will be rigidly maintained in proper alinement. It will be understood, of course, that the bolts which connect the plank 3 to the standards must also be removed while the adjustment is be ing accomplished.
From the foregoing it will be observed that a very simple and durable sled has been provided, the details of which embody the preferred form. I desire it to be understood however, that slight changes in the minor details of construction may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the claim hereunto appended.
I claim:
A device of the character described comprising a standard having a U-bol't fixed thereto, a yoke including laterally spaced arms each provided with a plurality of transversely alined apertures, a loop formed intermediate the ends of the said yoke and engageable with the said U-bolt whereby the said spaced apart arms are normally maintained in superposed relation, a beam of a width equal to the distance between the said arms of the yoke whereby the said arms may embrace the beam, the embraced, portion of the beam having a longitudinally spaced opening adapted to be alined With the opening in the said yoke and a removable fastening element adapted for reception in the opening in the arm of the yoke and in the said beam.
