To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BRUNO Quas a sub,- ject of the King of Prussia, German Emeror, residing at No. 9 Beischplatz, Cologneeutz-on-the-Rhine, Rhenish Prussia, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Continuous Rolling-Mills,
of which the following is a'specification.
My invention relates to improvements 1n rolling mills and it has forits objects among others to provide a simplified form of continuous rolling mill in which all pairs of rollers or cylinders are driven from a common gear to roll the metal in a forward and backward direction, said pairs of rollers or cylinders being placed behind each other and driven with an increasing circumferential speed. Two or more pairs of'rollers are juxtaposed and connected by a common dri vin gear so'that each rou of rollers will roll 1n one direction on y, either forward or backward. without reversing the driving gear or the motion of the driven pairs of rollers.
The present invention has for a further object to reduce the number of pairs of rollers required in a continuous rolling mill of the kind heretofore employed and thereby simultaneously simplifying the driving means and materially increasing the output of the mill. I attain this object by rolling the blocks or blooms in the reverse direction in a continuous rolling train having two or more groups of pairs of rollers juxtaposed and following each other in succession, the

necessitating the lifting of the blocks or blooms from one pair of rollers and deposit ing the same into the following igroup. The several groups of .pairs of ro lers arranged that the driving wheels serving to impart motion to the rollers alternately serve as intermediate wheels.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will hereinafter appear and the novel features thereof will be particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

The four pairs of rollers a, a an and a receive motion by the four driving members '6', b 5? and b", the rollers a and a forming the first group and the other rollers a and a the second group, the latter being arranged out of line with relation to the first roup. The four driving frames or memers 6', 6 b and b constitute a single group, the same being coupled or geared by the gears c, 0 c and c all of which are fixed to the extensions of the driving shafts. By thus disposing the one group out of alinement with the other, I provide that the driving Wheels of one group alternately shall serve as intermediate wheels of the other group. The second group a and of will then turn in the opposite direction to the rollers 05, o of the first group, that is if the one group is turning 'awayfrom the furnace the other group will turn toward the furnace. The roll blooms or blocks, therefore, being rolled to and fro, first passing the rollers of one group, and then being rolled back by the rollers of the second group andso on, will be treated until the desired definite cross section is obtained. It further should be noted that according to my invention, two blocks or blooms can be rolled at the same time, each .in one group, without disturbing the con tinuous working order.
. It will be noted that by my improvement each block or bloom on changing from one pair of rollers to another pair, enters the second pair with its opposite end in contradistinction to entering with the same end, as heretofore.
What is claimed as new is 1. A continuous rolling mill comprising two or more juxtaposed groups of rollers arranged in overlapping relation in pairs 5 placed behind each other, said groups being so arranged With relation to each other that the driving wheels controlling the rollers alternately serve as intermediate wheels.
2. A continuous rolling mill, comprising 0.
