atc es,
Specification of Letters Patent.
Pmmmtt t tar.
Application filed September 25, 1916. Serial No. 122,037.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Josii FERNANDEZ, a subject of the King of Spain, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented a new and Improved Water-Fountain, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to water fountains for public use for drinking purposes, and has for its object to render the water available for cleansing purposes.
Other objects are to provide a device which will automatically shut off the supply of water when the device is not in use, and to provide a device in which the supply of water is controlled by the foot of the operator, whereby the person operating the device may have the free use of the hands.
With these ends in view this invention consists in the details of construction and combination of elements hereinafter set forth and then specifically designated by the claims.
In the drawing, I have shown a preferred form of water vendor embodying this invention, portions of the device being broken away to show details of construction.
The base 1, standard 2, and brackets'3, 4, 5, together with drinking bowls 6, and drip basins 7, constitute the frame of the fountain. Each bracket consists of a lower arm 8 and an upper arm 9. The lower arms constitute supports for the drip basins, and each has a passage 10 leading from the drip-basin to the standard. Each upper arm has a passage 11 leading to the drink-bowl. The overflow, from the drink-bowl passes through the outlet 12 and into the drip-basin which is axially concentric therewith. A supply pipe 13 (there being one for each drink-bowl) is connected with passage 11 and extends downward to the base, and is there connected with the valve 14:, connected with the main supply pipe 15. The valve has a spring-actuated plunger 16 whereon is mounted the foot pedal 17, which is pressed by the foot of the operator to open the valve. The valve, while being normally held in closed position by the water pressure, is also closed automatically by the spring 18.
topics of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the In the device shown the bracket 3 is arranged higher than brackets 4, 5, the device being thereby adapted for the convenience of older and younger persons. One section of the fountain is shown in detail. The other sections are similarly connected and operated.
From the foregoing it may be seen that I have provided a drink fountain in which the water is also available for cleansing purposes. The device further automatically shuts off the water supply when not in actual use, thereby conserving the same. The plun ger and foot pedal are actuated horizontally to operate the controlling valve, thereby avoiding undue pressure or force by the oporator, and the water supply is controlled by the foot of the operator.
What is claimed is:
1. A water fountain, comprising a base, a standard, brackets carried by the standard, drink-bowls carried bv the brackets, dripbasins below and axially concentric with the drink-bowls, a water supply main within the base, valves and supply pipes forming communication between the supply main and the drink-bowls, and foot pedals to operate the valves.
2. In a water fountain, a base, a standard thereon, fountain drink-bowls carried by the standard, drip-basins beneath the drinkbowls to receive the overflow, water supply pipes for the drink-bowls, spring actuated valves to control the supply pipes, and footpedals to actuate the valves.
3. A device for dispensin ing fountain drink-bowls, rip-basins therebeneath, a base, a standard on the base and carrying the bowls and basins, water supply pipes leading to the drink bowls, controlling 90 valves in the supply pipes, and foot-pedals to actuate the controlling valves.
In testimony whereof I hereunto afix my signature this 27th day of August, 1916.
