Patented. July 2,1918.
Application filed December 26, 1917. v Serial No. 208,744.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE PFEIEEER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and useful Center Stop-Motion, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a center stop motion for looms, and particularly to improved devices for permitting relative adjustment between the several parts thereof and for securing said parts in adjusted position.
In the type of stop motion to which my invention is applied,- the filling fork is mounted on the lay near the center of the warp, and the actuating element or dagger is mounted near the end of the la at the side of the loom. A longitudinally extended connecting rod extends from the filling fork to the crank disk by which the dagger is positioned.
It is the object of my invention to provide improved devices for securing the crank disk to the connecting rod, said devices permittin relative angular adjustment of said disk an rod, and also longitudinally positioning the crank disk in its bearing.
With this general object in view, my invention relates to certain arrangements and combinations of arts hereinafter described and more particu arly pointed out in the appended claims.
A preferred form of my invention is shown in the drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of a center stop motion;
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of said stop motion' Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional detail view taken along the line 3-3 in Fig. 1, and
Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view taken along the line H in Fig. 3.
I have shown my invention applied to a commonform of stop motion comprising a filling fork 10 mounted at one end of a connecting rod 11 which extends alon the front side of the lay 12, one end of said rod being supported near the center of the loom in a bearing 13. At the side of the loom a dag er 14; is pivoted at 15 to a bracket 16 on t e lay 12, said da ger being designed to cooperate with a note ed collar 17 on a rod 18 through which the usual shipper is controlled. The dagger 14 is connected through a lin k19 to a crank disk 20. All of the parts thus far described are of the usual form and form no part of my invention. For a more complete description of these parts reference is made to the patent to Mcbruiness, No. 1,223,708, issued April 24, 1917.
My present invention relates specifically to improvements in the means for connecting the disk 20 to the rod 11. For the purpose of such connection the disk 20 is provided with a hollow split hub or sleeve 21 extending through a bearing 22 mounted on the lay 12. The end of the rod 11 fits loosely within the hollow hub 21. A collar 23 is secured to the extended inner end of the hub 21, and a set screw 24 in the collar 23 provides means for clamping the collar securely on the hub 21, and for thus contracting the hub or sleeve upon the rod 11. The collar 23 when thus secured also cooperates with the disk 20 to longitudinally position the hub 21 in the bearing 22. By loosening the screw 24; an desired angular adjustment between the isk 20 and the rod 11 may be readily made.
By this simple arrangement I am able to secure accurate angular adjustment of the parts 11 and 20 and to hold the parts firml in adjusted position. At the same time also position the disk 20 longitudinally relatively to its bearing 22. The parts involved are of simple construction and low cost of manufacture, and the adjustment when once secured is rigidly retained.
Having thus described In invention, it will be evident to those ski led in the art that changes and modifications can be made therein within the scope of m invention as set forth in the claims and I 0 not wish to be otherwise limited to the details herein disclosed, but what I claim is 1. A center stop motion comprising a filling fork, a dagger, a crank disk, a bearinlgI for said disk, a link connecting said dis to said dagger, and connections between said disk and said fillin fork, said connections including a longitudinally extended rod on which said filling fork is mounted, and
