READY-MADE DECORATION.
Specification of Letters Patent.

together portions of the decorative fabric and tie the same to give the necessary or desired form to the trimming or decoration. It is the object of my invention to dispense with such unnecessary labor by furnishing ready made decorations in condition to be quickly hung in osition on the building to be decorated. ther objects will appear hereinafter.
With these objects in view my invention consists generally in a heading in combination with decorative fabric secured thereto and portions of said fabric being arranged in plaits or folds and caught into said heading. My invention further contemplates an arrangement whereby several pieces of decorative fabric are secured to the heading as mentioned and wherein the edge of one or more of said pieces is arranged in folds or plaits and permanently connected to the edge of the adjacent piece or pieces. My invention further consists in an article of manufacture as above mentioned in combination with means on said heading for supporting the same in osition. My invention further consists 1n various details of construction and arrangement of parts all as will be fully described hereinafter and particularly pointed out in the claim.
My invention will be more readily understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which Figure l is an elevation of a ready made 'lhis is preferably made of two laps, that IS, a front lap 1 and a rear lap 1". Secured to the heading 1 is the decorative fabric 2 which may be of any color or combinations of colors as may suit the taste. As shown in the drawings, have illustrated a form known in the decorative art as a butterfiy, it consisting of a central portion 3 and the ends or wings 4:, but it is obvious that various forms or designs may be manufactured embodying my invention without departing in any way from the sco e or spirit thereof. In order to give the Fabric the proper form and set, it is gathered into folds or plaits 5 and these plaits are secured in the heading between the laps 1 and 1". To give better form to the larger and fuller portions of the device only the ends of the folds or plaits 5 maybe secured in the heading as shown clearly in Fig. 2, the remaining portions 5' of the ends of the plaits being left free as illustrated. However, this is not essential but is one method of securing a particular effect. At 5" I have illustrated a form wherein the ends of the folds or plaits are arranged completely within the heading.
It is obvious that the decoration may consist of a single piece of fabric such as the central portion 3, but my invention contemplates carrying the same further and employing a plurality of pieces, 3 and l and in suitably connecting the adjacent edges of the several pieces so as to give the desired efi'ect. As shown in the drawings the inner ends of the portions 4 are arranged in folds or plaits 6 and stitched to the edge of the adjacent portion 3 by lines of stitching 7.
In order that the article may be readily and easily placed in position I equip the same with suitable supporting or attaching means. As shown in the drawings these comprise D-rings 8 or the like secured to the head 1 by short straps or'loops 9. These may be arranged at the ends or desired positions along the heading to give the proper support.
It is obvious that with my invention a vast number of designs may be made in permanent or ready made condition so that the decorator has merely to hang the same in position on the building to be decorated. Also the labor in preparing the decorations when applying the same to the building is dispensed with. Furthermore by having the decorations prepared in this manner, sym
Ill]
metry may be easily attained by the decorator which was amatter of difficulty under the old method of decorating.
I claim:
A ready made decoration for draping buildings comprising a heading, means arranged at proper intervals on the heading for attachin the same in position and a decorative fa ric arranged in folds or plaits secured to said heading, providing when in place a similarity to draped colors, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
WILLIAM J. HELLER.
