Description

H.FORDL PASTEURIZER COIL BRUSH.
APPLICATION FILED OCT. 4, 19ll.
mvENToFzv #ar/y fr/f WITNESSES @14%) ATTORNEY VIHLLLRRY FORDE, OF TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA.
PASTEURIZER-COIL BRUSH.
Specification. of Letters Patent.
Patenten June is, 191s.
Application filed October 4, 1917. Serial No. 194,752.
To all who/m 'it may concern.'
Be .it known that I, HARRY Forum, a subject ot the King of Great Britain, residing at Toronto, in the Province oit'` Ontario and Dominion ot' Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fasteurizer-Coil Brushes, of which the following is a speciiication.
rllhis invention has relation to brushing and cleaning` devices, and has for an object to provide a device particularly adapted and intended to clean the exterior surface ot the revoluble coil of a milk or cream pasteurizing machine.
i Another object of the invention is to provide a device for the purpose above described which embodies a pair of seinicircular brushing elements mounted for movement toward and away -from each other and delining, when the brushes are in proper relation a circular brushing element designed to encircle the pipe forming the coil of a milk or cream pasteurizing machine ywhereby the exterior surface oi the entire coil may be cleaned in one operation.
Another object oi the invention is to provide a brushing device having the above named characteristics and including the Ilsemici.rcular brushing elementsl` and a new and 'novel means whereby the brushing elements may be moved toward or away from each other to permit the same to be encircled about the pipe forming the coil of a milk or cream pasteurizing machine.
In addition to the foregoing my invention comprehends improvements in the details of construction and arrangement oi' the parts to be hereinafter more fully described and particularly set t'orth in the appended claims. y
In the accompanying drawings in which similar and corresponding parts are designated by the same characters of reference throughout the several views in which they appear:
Figure l, is a View in plan of a brushing and cleaning device constructed in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2, is a 'View ot the device in side elevation, and
Fig. 3, is a detail section taken on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1.
With reference to the drawings, 10 indicates a handle having a hand grip 11 on one end. and a pair of oppositely extending ears 12 at its opposite end, said ears being apertured. A pair of seniicircular brush elements 13`are provided, each brushing ele-` ment haif'ing one end biturcated as at 14 to receive therebetween the ears 12 of the handle, whereby a pin 15 inserted. `through the bifurcated end'ot' the brushing element and through the apertured ear 12 may serve to connect the brushing elements to the handle for movement. The brushing elements 13 as stated above are semicircular and are arranged so as to define a complete circle when the free ends ot' the elements are brought into proximity as shown in Fig. 1. The inner surface ot.' each curved element 13 is provided with bristles 15, the bristles on the 'tree 'ends ot the elements being longer than the remaining bristles as indicated at 16 and directed toward each other so as to form a complete circle oi bristles when the elements 13 are in arrangement to define a circle. The end o'l. the handle l0 to which the brushing elements are connected is also provided with a set oit bristles 17, forming with the bristles o't' the' curved elements a complete circular arrangement. A pair of springs 18 areprovided one for eachy pin 15 which they encircle, one end`ol each spring being secured to the handle while the other bears against the outer surface of an adjacent brushing element 13 whereby to urge said elements toward each other.
To separate one of the elements 13 from the other, I provide an arrangement on the handle which comprises a pair' ot' laterally extending ears 19 and 20, a member 21 being secured to the standarifl 19 to iorm a guide, said member 2l being apertured to receive a rod 22 to guide the same. One end et the rod is connected to one ol the members v13 while the other end is connected to a substantially bell crank shaped member 23 having one end extended to form a finger grip 24, the bell crank being pivotally mounted upon the ear 20.
A certain type ot' milk and cream pasteurizing machines includes a coil of pipe havling its convolutions spaced and mounted Ator rotation around the longitudinal axis of the coil. lt is this coil that my device is intended to clean and when in use the hand grip l1 is grasped and the finger grip 24 pressed so as to move the associated brushing element 13 away from its mating element to permit the brushing element to encircle one ot the convolutions ol" the coil at one end. The semi-circular brushing elenient is then permitted to return to its former position so as to define 4vacircle and permit the bristlesv to engage aroundvthe pipe. The provision of the bristles 16 and 17 permit each portionof the circumference yLetters Patent is l. A brushing device including a handle, alpair of semi-circular brushing elements mounted thereon to define when the brushing elements are brought together a comlete circle, resilient means urging the brushing elements toward each other, and means mounted on the handle engaging one of the elements toV move the same away from the other. c
2. A brushing device including a handle, a pair `of semicircular brushing elements pivotally mounted thereon, defining when brought together, a complete circle, resilient elements urging 'the brushing' elements tolward each other, a`bell crank mounted on copies or ,this ,patent 'mayibe attained' for connecting said bell crank to one of the 45 brushingl elements whereby to move the same away from each other. y
4. A brushing device including a handle, two pairs'of apertured ears 4onxone end of the handle, and at opposite sides oit' the 50.
handle, a pair of semi-circular brushing elements, each' being pivotally connected at one end thereof' between a pair of ears, studs penetrating said ears and brushing elements and extending therebeyond and a coil spring 55 surrounding each stud, each spring having `one end connected to one of the associated brushing elements, and its other end connected to the handle to urge said brushing elements toward eachother. 60
"Intestimony whereof I aliiX mysignature y in presence of two witnesses.
