To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1,,THEODORE E. CHARL- Bnne, a citizen of the United States, residing at Moline, in the county of Rock Island and .State of Illinois, have invented new a (1 useful Improvements in Screen-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to screen fasteners and one of the ob'ects is to rovide a device which may readily be attac ed to the side portions of the frame of a screen of usual construction, for the purpose of permitting the screen to be secured outside of a window sash, and without the necessity of using a ladder if the window to be screened happens to be in an upper story, and without the necessit of operating from the outside of any win ow when lacing the screen in position and securing't e latter.
A further object is to, provide a device comprising a sheet metal blank suitably cut and bent' into shape in order to provide for a main portion to be attached to the frame of the screen and a flanfed portion having an engaging slot and a apted to pass over the shank portion of a screw or the like reviously placed in position in the win ow frame.
-With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction hereinafter described and claimed.

Portion 14, constituting the engaging member designed to be brought into contact with a screw, pin, or other device connected with the frame-of the window, is bent along a line indicated by 16, said ortion 14 being then deflected at substantially right angles to member 10.
The upper end of member 10 may be curved or deflected with reference to the main portion of the device, this curved portion being designated 17, and the edge 18 thereof being brought into position adjacent to one edge of member 14, thus providing a cover portion acting as a protecting member and preventing injury to the hands in manipulating V the screen or window sash and also affording means for manipulation.
The screws passing through the slot 15 are designated 20, and two or more screws may be em loyed in suitable positions, the slot providmg for adjustment as desired,
after the screws have been inserted but not fully driven in, so that their heads will con tact with the surface of plates 10.
The fasteners constructed as described are applied to the side members 24 and 25 of the frame of a window screen, and these fasteners are made in pairs in order that the members 14 may be properly ositioned with reference to the adjacent e ge of the a screen. These members 14 are similarly formed in each' instance but are merely located on opposite sides of the plate portion 10. The slots of members 14 are designated 14. l
It is obvious that the device may also be employed for the purpose of securing an extra or storm sash to the outer portion of a window frame, and that it may also be used for similar purposes in connecting adjacent elements which it is not desired to secure permanently.
I claim The combination with a frame of a screen and the vertical side members thereof, of a V plurality of plate members secured to opposite sides of the frameon the inner surface thereof, said plate members being each provided with a flanged member having a slot 5 extending from the interiorportion thereof to the outer edge, means carried by the frame of a window for engaging said slots and a curved member eiztendin 7 from the end of the plate member and de ected from the main surface thereof over the flanged 10' portion to a point adjacent to the exposed edge and the upper free corner thereof.v
