description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to a sterilizer.
The object of'the present invention is to improve the construction of sterilizers and to provide a simple, practical and efiicient sterilizer of strong, durable and inexpensive construction designed for sterilizin dry an preserving fruits and vegetables an steaming meats, puddings and the like. A further object of the invention is to provide a stemlizer of this character adapted for use b nurses and others in connection with sic rooms, hospitals and the like as well as in households and other places, and adapted to be readily reversed to enable it to receive bottles, jars and receptacles of different sizes.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction and novel combination of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and pointed out in the claims hereto appended; it being understood that various changes in the orm, proportion, size and minor details of construction, within the scope of the claims. may be resorted to without departing from the s irit or sacrificing any of the advantages 0 the invention.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the reversible plates and connecting supports removed from the boiler or rece tacle.
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectiona view of the sterilizer showin the same applied to a. boiler or receptac e.
Fig. 3 is a detail view of a portion of the tray.
Fig. 4 is a detail view of a tray having a plurality of openings of different sizes.
Like numerals of reference desi ate corresponding parts in the several gures of the drawing.
In the accompan g drawm 1n WhlCll is illustrated the pre erred embo iment of the invention, the sterilizer comprises in its con- Specification of Letters Patent.

struction a pair of spaced horizontal lates 1 and 2 secured to angle brackets 3 an 4 of connectmgsupports 5 preferably consisting of vertica bars arranged in pairs and having their terminals bent outwardly to form laterally (projecting lugs 6. The brackets are rivete or otherwise secured to the inner faces of the vertical bars and the plate 2, w h1ch is arranged at the bottom of the device in the accom anying drawing, is preferablv riveted to the bottom bracket, while the upper plate 1 is detachably secured to the upper bracket 3 by bolts 7 or other suit able fastening devices to enable the u per plate to be removed and another plate avmg openings of a different size substituted for such slate. In Fig. 4 of the drawing is illustrate a bottom plate 8 havin openings 9 and 10 of different sizes ada te to receive bottles, jars or other rece tac es of different diameters. By having t e upper plate removable the device may be quickly changed to enable it to be used for various pur oses p11: canning, preserving, sterilizing an the The bottom plate 2 and the top plate 1 are provided with openings 11 and 12 which are of different diameters to receive jars and bottles or the like and thejars or bottles are supported upon a tray 13 which is arranged between the supports and between the upper and lower plates and is adapted to rest u on the plate at the bottom of the device. he device is reversible and when the device is reversed the plate previously at the to is brought to the bottom and the bottom p ate is carried to the top. The tra is then arranged upon the bottom plate, eing readil movable in the space between the upper an lower plates to enable it to be placed upon either of the said plates.
The tray and the plates 1 and 2 have rounded ends and they conform to the confi ration of an ordinary boiler and are a apted for use in the same, the tray being and the said lugs 6 which are located at the ends of the legs are provided with eyes or openin s 15 which are adapted to be engaged by hoo s 16 of bails 17 which are adapted to be engaged with the lugs at the ends of the supports. This will enable the device to be 7 readily lifted from the boiler 18 so that there is no liability of the operators hand coming in contact w1th the hot water or other heated ortions of the device. In the reversin or inverting of the device, the tray and the ottom plate may be simultaneously grasped to turn the device so that there is no liability of the tra accidentally slipping 'and the tray may t on be readily placed in position upon the lower plate. The tray is adapted to rest upon the lowermost plate in either position of the device. The bottles, cans or other receptacles are placed upon the tra and are arranged within the openings of t e u per plate so that there is no liability of the ottles, cans or jars slipping when placing them in or removing them from the boiler. The sterilizer is adapted for steaming fruit, vegetables and the like as well as meats, puddings and other articles of food so that the device may be employed for cooking as well as steaming, canning and sterilizing. It is particularl adapted for sterilizing dry goods, clot ing and various articles used in the sick room and hospital or the like, and it may be used for a large variety of cooking, steaming and sterilizing operatlons.
What I'claim is: I 1. An invertible sterilizer comprisin supports, plates having openings of di erent sizes and the openings of one plate diflering in size from the opening of the other plate and said plates secured to the supports in relatively spaced relation and in spaced relation with the ends of the supports to provide legs at both ends of said supports, and a tray arranged between the supports and adapted to rest upon the lowermost plate in either position of the device.
2. A sterilizer comprising supports, plates secured to the supports in relatively spaced relation and in spaced relation with the ends of the supports to provide legs at the ends of the supports, each plate provided with rest upon the lower plate in either position I of the device.
3. An invertible sterilizer comprising supports, plates having openings of difl'erent sizes and the openings of one plate differing in size from the openings of the other plate, and said plates secured to the supports in relatively spaced relation and in spaced relation with the ends of the supports to provide legs at both ends of said supports, one of the plates being detachable to permit plates having openings of different sizes to be employed, and a tray located within the supports and adapted to rest upon the bottom plate in either position of the device.
4. An invertible sterilizer comprising supports consisting of vertical bars, brackets secured to the bars on the inner faces thereof and arranged in spaced relation with each other and the ends of the bars, top and bottom plates secured to the brackets and having openings of different sizes and the openings of one plate differing in size from the openings of the other plate, and a tray arranged within the supports and located between said plates and adapted to rest upon the lowermost plate in either position of the device.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
