Be it known that I, PHILIP FOUKES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pittsburgh,'in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvenia, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Splice- Joints, of which the following is a specificaa joint of novel construction having improved means whereby the necessity of punching holes in the legs of'the derrick to connect the bracing members is avoided end overcome, thereby enabling the cross sectional area: and weight per lineal foot of the legs or uprights of the structure to be reduced the structure to be'feciliteted.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a splice joint for derricks end similar framedstructures having the novel combinations and, arrangement of parts shown in the accompanying drawings, specifically pointed out in the appended claims and more fully described hereinafter. Modifications in the details or" the constriiction of the splice joint, and the nuanner of fastening the bracing members thereto, may be made Without departing from my invention as defined in the appended claims.
I claim 1. A splice joint for derricks and similar structures comprising an angle plate engag ing the sides of the derrick'leg, plate being adapted to connect the members of the leg bracing, clips engaging the edges or" said leg to clamp the angle plate in position thereon, said bracing clips and angle plate having registering bolts in said registering holes for securing the clips to the angle plate and thereby 4 derrick leg bracing said angle holes therein and assesses clamping the angle plate on the derrick leg and fastening the bracing to the an le plate.
2. A splice joint for derricks and similar structures comprising an angle plate to engagejthe sides of the to the angle plate and engaging the edges of the derrick leg to thereby clamp and frictionally hold the angle plate in position on the derrick leg, said angle plate having the fastened thereto, and said bracing, angle plate, and clips having registering holes therein, and bolts extending through said registering holes.
3. A splice joint for derricks and similar structures comprising an. angle plate to on. gage the sides of the derrick leg, clips bolted to the angle plate and engaging the edges of the derrick leg to thereby clamp and trictionally hold the angle plate in position on the derrick leg, said angle plate havingthe derrick. leg bracing fastened thereto, and means formed on the derrick leg to engage with and fix the position of the angle plate lengthwise on the l. in a derrick or s'niilar structure the combination of a of the derrick, diagonal braces and girts formed oi filled metal shapes, and, a splice joint for i: ening the diagonal braces and girts to the l said splice joint having z: gaging the sides and clips e edges of said leg, with re ate: the angle plate and clips, the ends of vthe diagonal bra and bolts eZ-Ztendlng through holes-oi": the bracing and regist :71 b in the clips and angle plate, to clamp the parts in assembled relation.
