ADJUSTABLE FENCE-GUARD.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 11, 1918.
Application filed February 8, 1918. Serial No. 216,095.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE BENNIE BIRD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hillisburg, in the county of Clinton and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Adjustable Fence-Guard, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to fence guards, and is designed more particularly to prevent live stock from breaking down the fencing by breasting against the same.
The objects of my invention are, first, to furnish a simple means of constructing one of the wires of the fence a distance from the main structure as a guard to the main structure, and, second, to provide a means of ad justing the guard wire to either side of the fence as required, and to remove the guard out of-the way in cultivating the lands adjacent.
To accomplish these ends said invention consist of the means hereinafter fully de scribed and particularly pointed out in the claims.
The annexed drawings andthe following description sets out in detail the mechanism embodying the invention, such disclosed means constituting, however, but one of the various mechanical forms in which the principle of the invention may be used.
In the accompanying illustrations, Figure l is a view of my entire adjustable fence guard shown in position.
Fig. 2 is 'a side view of my adjustable fence guard showing, by dotted lines, its adjustment to the opposite side of the post and fence line.
In Fig. 1, 8 shows the fence post to the side of which the adjustable guard frame is fastened. 1, 2 show respectively the guard frame pivotally secured to the post allowing movement about said pivotal center in the adjustment of the guard to its various positions. 3, 3 show arms at right angles with guard, bearing against face of post to hold guard in position. 4 shows the outer angle of guard frame engaging outer guard wire. 9, 10 are the upper and lower angles of guard frame engaging upper and lower guard wires to which frame said guard wires are fastened by wire loops. 3, 3, 4 show the relative positions of 3, 3, 4 when guard is in position for the cultivation of adjacent lands.
In Fig. 2, 3, 3, 4 show the relative positions of 3, 3, 4. when the guard is reversed to protect the fence from the opposite side.
For convenience of adjustment the several guard wires should be fastened to end and corner posts by a single eye bolt or common center. By lifting up on the lower guard wire the entire adjustable guard rolls to the position as shown by dotted lines in Fig. 1 and is held in that position by the relative tension of the respective guard wires. By a second roll of the guard wires the adjustable guard falls into position as shown by dotted lines in Fig. 2.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim and upon which I desire Letters Patent is:
1. The combination with a fence post of a brace pivotally attached to the side thereof, means for the support of said brace in a horizontal position, means for the engagement of a wire at the outer extremity of said brace, substantially'as set forth.
2. The combination with a fence post of a triangular brace pivotally attached to the side thereof, means for the support of said brace in a horizontal position, means for the engagement of a wire at its outer extremity,
substantially as set forth- I GEORGE BENNIE BIRD.
