Description
SAMUEL cnAwFo- Rm lmpf-ovement in Harvesters.
,No 126,932. t May 21,1872.
WIZWESJZJ:
UNITED S'IAE SAMUEL CRAWFORD, OF LONDON, CANADA.
IMPROVEMENT IN HARVESTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 126,932, dated May 21, 1872.
Specification describing certain Improvements in Reaping-Machines for Harvesting Grain, invented by SAMUEL CRAWFORD, ot the city of London, in the Province of Ontario and Dominion of Canada.
The object of my invention is to prot'ide a convenient method of elevating and adjusting the grain-tables of reaper-s to the desired elevation.
Figure I is a side elcation embodying my invention. Fig. 11 is a plan of the same, showing the manner in which the sliding knuckle B is fitted to the table-bracket A.
The tablebracket A is bolted securely to the table T, and is so constructed that the knuckle-plate B may slide on it freely upward and downward. lhe rack O is formed on the edge of the knuckle-plate B. P is a lever, on one-end of which is formed the segment D, having cogs, which work into the corresponding cogs of the rack (J. E is a rack-bar, havin g notches to receive the latch with which the lever P is furnished, and in connection with which it is intended to hold the lever in its position as adjusted. I prefer making the tablebracket A to extend back to the point F, for convenience in adjusting thepivot or fulcrum F to. the proper distance from the rack O. The arm G and grain-wheel H are constructed and arranged and work in the ordinal Y manner.
The front of the machine is indicated by the direction of the arrow.
To lower the grain-table T, I disengage the latch L from the rack-bar E and press the lever P downward. The knuckle plate B is thereby forced upward on the table-bracket A and the grain-table T lowered correspoinliligly. To elevate the grain -table, I disengage the lever, as above described, and press it upward. The knuckle-plate B is thus forced downward on the table bracket A and the table T elevated correspondingly, the rack-bar E always holding the apparatus as adjusted.
I claim- As animproved device for raising and lowerin g the outer end of the platform in reapingmachines, the combination of the plate B, formed with a rack, 0, upon its rear edge, sliding on a guide'flange on thebracket A, and carrying the grain wheel H; the lever P, formed with a s gment, D, gearing with the rack G, and fulcrumed upon the bracket A'at a point, F, in rear of the sliding plate B; and the rack-bar E for securing the lever P in any position; the said parts being constructed and arranged to operate in the manner herein set forth.
Witnesses: SAMUEL CRAWFORD.
