Be it known that I, FRANGISZEK SzMrT,

Y a citizen of Poland, residing at Bayonne,

county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful, Improvements in War Protecting- Suits, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in suits of armor as worn by soldiers and its special object is to provide-means for protecting the main portions of the body against projectiles and the like. I

"A further object is to provide a new form of armor plate comprised of super-imposed layersv of material, the various layers of the armor being so united as to permit entire freedom of action of the limbs and head.

These and other like objects are attained by the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter described and shown in the accompanying drawings, forming a material part of this disclosure, and in which Figure 1 is a front elevational view showing .an armor made in accordance with the invention.

Formed with the rear plate 11 are extensions connecting by the-hinges 36 with the helmets 38, adapted to cover the head of the wearer, the helmet being normally drawn downward, due to the pull of the tension spring 39, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, while in the modification shown in Figs.

3 and 4, the spring is dispensed with and in place thereof is secured a strap 40, adaptedto passbelow the chin of the wearer,

holding the helmet in a downward position.

All these several armor plates are constructed-in a .novel manner, comprised of layers, the inner layer 42 of which is of strong cotton fabric like canvas, the center layer 43 being of glass, and "the outer layer 44 of paraflin fiber.

The inner cotton layer provides a cushionlike surface adapted to make contact with a the ordinary garments worn by the individual, while the center layer of glass, treated so as to be non-fragile, supplies the necessary resistance to the impact of a prov jectil'e, or the like, while the outer layer of V parafiin fiber, serves to receive and retard the missile, the several layers being fixedly united together, forming laminated plates of high resisting properties. i

Having thus described my inventlon what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is.

1. A laminated armor comprised of inner layer of cotton fabric, a center layer of glass, and another layer of paralfin fiber, all of said. layers being-firmly united tog'ether. p 2. In an armor, the combination with a plurality of plates suited to the body of a wearer, said plates being comprised of mner layers of cotton, middle layers of glass, and outer layers of paraflin fiber.

3.
