IMPROVE EiQIT IN FIELD THRASHING AND SEPARATING MACHlNES.
Specification describing certain Improvements in a combined Field Th ash and Separating Machine, invented b qfo my e. MOH- LER, Jr., of Ephrata, in the county f Lancaster and State of Pennsylvania.
The nature of my invention relat s to the arrangement of pulleys so that, by m ans of a single belt, motion from the shaft of t 1e cylinder is imparted to an endless apron for conveyinm the grain as it is cut to the c linder, and for driving the fan, the shaft of w iich is made crank-fashion on two sides, whic conmeet by rods with the shaker bottom and straw-carrier for cleaning the thrashed grain, which falls into an inclined trough, by which the cleaned grain is conveyed into bags, {died for its reception as a whole, forming a simpliiied field thrashing and separating ma- The accompanying drawing, formin to show the arrangementof the pulleys; Fig. 2, the same, with the driving-wheel removed to show the fan, case,- and connecting-rod in side view in part; Fig. 4, a top or plan view, to show i all the wheels, pulleys, crank, 8pc.
I claim no special novelty as to the construction of the shaker, straw-carrier, shoe, and sieves; nor the fan, separately considered. The supporting-wheels A of the machine are of the ordinary diameter of the wheels on reapin g-machines. To one of these wheels A, there is an inside cogged wheel, 13, which may be operated by a pawl and ratchet to put it in or out of gear in the ordinary way, not shown. This wheel B meshes into a pinion, O, on the shaft of which, on the'opposite side, there is a cogged Wheel, D, which drives a pinion, E, on the shaft of the cylinder F. This shaft'has a belt-pulley, G, for the belt or strap H, which may be crossed and turned or checked and carried back to pulley J ,from I over G, as a continuous. or simple belt; or, by doubling the fipecifict ion forming part of Letters Patent No. 126,897, dated May 21, 1872. 1 i
pulley G, a cross-belt can be carried from G to I, and another belt from G to J. Thereby motion is imparted to the roller K, connected by an endless apron with the roller L, so as to carry the grain from the cutter-bar of a reapingmachine up an incline plane, M, to the spiked cylinder, which, with its concaves, are formed on the ordinary plan. At the same time motion is also imparted to the fan-blower or incased fan N, the shaft 0 of which is formed into a crank, P P, on each side for the attachment of one end of the connecting-rods Q Q, while the other end is attached to the under side of the shaker R and straw-carrier S combined. The shoe T or combination of sieves receive their shaking motion in like manner from the cranked fan-shaft. There is also an inclined-spout, U, to receive the clean ed grain, so asto discharge it on one side into a bag suspended thereto for the purpose, by brackets or otherwise. The machine may be also used as any ordinary machine in the barn, or mounted upon an ordinary road wagon. For thrashing lin the barn it is only necessary to remove the wheels A Band the pinion E from the shaft of the cylinder, to be replaced by a belt-pulley, and connect with the ordinary horse-powr--the object being mainly for operating in the field and to thrash and clean the grain as it is being cut.
1 What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent on a combined thrashing and separating machine, is-
he belt H, pulleys G l J ,roller K, fan-shaft O rovided with crank F, fan N, connectingrodsQ Q, separating devices R S T, and the operatin gear-wheels, all combined and arranged substantially as and for the purpose described. m m...
