My present invention relates to straps which may be attached at one or both ends to any support and has for its particular object to. provide a strap suitable for attachment to the backs of automobile seats for the purpose of holding robes or Wearing A further purpose is to provide ends of the strap. To these and other en ds thein'vention consists in certain improvements and combinationsof parts, all as will be hereinafter more fully described, the novel features being pointed out in the claims at the end of the specification.

plan view of one end of the A strap constructed in accordance with the present invention is particularly adapted for use on the backs of automobile Seats ,for thepurpose. of holding robes, coats or other articles of wearing apparel, and embodies generally two attaching members ,or plates connected by a body of fiexible material, preferably va single strand of cord passing through apertures inthe plates and forming a plurality of windings, the free ends being tied to the plates or otherwise secured. As both ends of the strap are preferably alike I have shown one end only in Figs. 2 to 5, in which the attaching plate is shown as formed with an enlarged attaching end l provided with apertures 2 through which securing screws may pass, and a narrow portion 3 having an aperture 4 extending therethrough. The edge of the aperture 4 against which thecord pulls is rounded by bending back the portion 5 of the material removed in forming the aperture, as shown in Fig. 6,' thereby doing away with any rough edge which might fray the cord. The winding A is inclosed by a layer or wrapping of. cord 6 wound spirally thereon in several layers ,until the strap is of the l proper diameter, this wrapping extending beyond the end of the body winding and around the narrow portion 3 of the attaching member (Fig. 3). The strap is then covered by a tubular braid7 (Fig. 4) which extends beyond the attaching plate at each end. rIhe free ends of the braid are cut ofi a short distance beyond the attaching plate, then folded back upon the plate in which position they may be secured by sewing or by other means.

In order to protect the braid where it eX- tends over the edge of the attaching plate, I preferably employ finishing member or plate 8 covering each attaching plate and provided with a marginal flange extending over the edge of the latter. The finishing plate is provided with apertures l1 registering with the apertures in the attaching plate to receive screws 12 by means 0f which the strap may be attached to any desired support. The ends of the flange 9 converge and increase in width as shown in Fig. 7 and at the attaching plate to properly lit around vthe-reduced portion 10 (Fig. 5) of the strap lwhere they are bent to-ward each other for the purpose of securing the finishing plate on the strap, as vshown in Fig. 9. lars 13 ma be -provided on .the flanges at opposite en s thereof, of such -alength as to just meet when the flanges are bent inwardly, thereby making the finishing member more secure..

In the modified structure shown in Figs. 12 to 16, the attaching plate 1 isformed with upstanding ears 14 and the free end 16 of the braid isfsecured after folding it back, by means of a plate 15 placed over it, the plate being held in place by bending the ears 14 inwardly over the edge of the plate. The latter is positioned so that apertures 17 therein' register with theapertures 2 in the plate 1, thuspermitting the passage of the securing screws.

In the construction shown in Fig. 17 the finishing plate 18 is U 'shape and the attaching end of the strap is included' between the parallel portions of the plate which are provided with registering apertures to receive an attaching .screw or screws 19 passing therethrough.

I claim as my invention:
