' soar TABLET.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 4, 1918.
Application filed June 9, 1916. Serial No. 102,612.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GHESNEY L, JoNns, a citizen of the United States, and residing at Oakland, in the county of Bergen and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Soap Tablets, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to soa tablets, cakes or balls designed particular y for use by mechanics and others for cleansing the hands of grease, grime and other substances with which the hands become covered in the operation of or manipulation of machinery of various kinds and classes and in working in various shops, foundries or likeplaces.
The invention is fully disclosed in thefollowing specificatiomof which the accompanying draw-ing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement aredesignated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which v Figure 1 is a sectional side view of a tablet of soap made according to my invention;
and,
Fig. 2 a similar view showing a modification.
In the practice of my invention, as shown in Fig. 1, I provide a small tablet, cake or ball a of ordinary toilet soap, of any kind or class, and thecenter of which is hollow and provided with a chamber a which is filled in with a liquid substance '6 of highly cleansing qualities, or cleansing qualities greater than those of ordinary soa 'l he tablet of soap is preferably provided in one side thereof with a recess a and this weakens the walls of the chamber a so that said walls may be easily punctured at the point a and the liquid contents ot the tablet may be discharged Whenever necessary for the purpose of cleansing or cleaning the hands, or the walls of the tablet may be crushed regardless of the dimensions or thickness thereof, in the operation of releasing the liquid contents, and the broken soap produced by the crushing of the walls of the tablet may be used as ordinary soap for any purpose.
The construction shown in Fig. 2 of the accompanying drawing is the same as that or toilet soap v shown in Fig. 1, except that the walls of the chamber a in the tablet of soap are provided, as shown at c, with a lining of celluloid or'other suitable material which forms a. supplemental container for the liquid cleansing substance I) and in the use of the latter thissupplemental container must also be broken, but the supplemental container serves to protect the liquid cleansing material, if the tablet of soap should be accidentally broken and will retain said liquid substance for use under such condition.
It will be understood that the tablet of soap may be of any desired size but, in practice, articles of this class are preferably made very small and intended for use but once and must consequently be made comthis invention is to provide an article or articles of the class specified which may be put up in small packages and vended by means of an ordinary slot machine, if desired.
My improved soap tablets will be sufficiently firm to admit of handling under ordinary conditions without breaking the walls thereof, and the tablets made in this manner will be sanitary and highly desirable as a soap for separate or individual use in all public places. a
The cleansing liquid substance I) may consist of kerosene oil or any other suitable liquid or composition of liquids that will mingle freely with water and form in connection therewith a desirable and safe cleansing element which will not injure the skin in any way but will thoroughly clean or cleanse the same under all conditions, and this cleansing element or liquid should be such that it will not operate to dissolve the soap under ordinary conditions.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is v 1. An individual tablet of soap adapted to be used for a single washing and having a central chamber surrounded by a wall of solid soap sufiiciently thin to permit the same to be easily crushed :by the hands of the user, and a hquid having high cleansing qualities, inclosed in said chamber and adapted to mingle with the solid soap when the tablet is crushed and form in connection therewith a cleansing solution.
2. An individual tablet of soap adapted to be used for a single washing and having a central chamber surrounded by a wall of solid soap sufliciently thin to permit the same to be easily crushed by the hands of the user, a protecting lining for said chamber impervious to liquids and capable of be ing crushed by .the hands of the user, and a liquid having high cleansing qualities, inclosed in said chamber and adapted to mingle with the solid soap when the tablet is crushed and form in connection therewith a cleansing solution.
3. A tablet of soap having a central chamber filled with a liquid having'high cleansing qualities, said tablet being also provided with a weakened Wall or portion whereby it may be easily ruptured or broken.
4. A tablet of soap having a chamber, a container mounted in said chamber, said container being filled with a liquid having high cleansing qualities, and means to facilitate the discharge of said liquid from said tablet.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of the subscribing witnesses this 7 th day of June 1916.
