To all them it may concern: v
Be it known that I, FRANK Memo, a at Pennsylvania, have invented certain new .and useful Improvements in Toys and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention has for its object to provide a highly amusing toy which may be mcxpensively manufactured and sold at small cost, said toy embodying a gun for shooting marbles and the like, and preferably a I whistle.
With the foregoing object in view the invention resides in the device herein described and claimed and shown in the accompanying drawing wherein:
Figures 1 and 2 are rspective views Ehowing two ways in which the gun may be red" Fig; 3 is a perspective or the device in normal position;
Fig. 4: is a longitudinal section; and,
Fig. 5 is a transverse section on the plane of the line li -5 of Fig. 4.
In the drawing above briefly described, the numeral 1 designates a stralght preferably rectangular block of wood or other suitable material, said block having a central bore 2 with which a air of longitudinal slots 3 communicate, said slots being formed in opposite sides of the-block and being of less width than the diameter of the bore longitudinally a considerable distance to increase its leverage against a coiled spring (3 which bears against its rear side.
The spring 6 is slipped into the bore 2 amusement.
before the bar 4 is inserted and when said sprmg 1s slightly compressed b insertion of said bar, its tension will hold t e latter normally against the front ends of the slots 3 asseen in Fig. 4, the rear end of said spring being positioned against the inner end of the bore, Spring 6 en ages the bore 2 rather snugly and is of Sn cient size to preventloss throughthe slots 3.
As seen clearly in the drawings, the ends of the slots are spaced sufliciently from the front end of the block 1, to locate the bar 4: at a suitable distance from said ehd to permit the reception of a marble or the like 7 in the front end of the bore. Either head 5 may be pulled rearwardly by the fore finger (Fig; 1) or the thumb (Fig. 2) and .thus'the spring 6 will'be compressed by tiltmg of bar 4 and will return said bar to normal position when'the same is released. The spr'ng thus serves to force the bar against t e missile 7 and the latter is consequently impelled-from the gun with ,considerable force.
In playing certain games, it is desirable to use analarm or signal in addition to the gun and I have therefore equipped the rear end of the block 1 with a simple form of whistle as seen at 8, but it is to be understood that the device may well be manufactured without this feature. I
the article is extremely simple and ma therefore be manufactured and sold for a,
small amount, yet it will afi'ord considerable I claim:
elongated block having a longitu inal bore opening thron%h its front end, two opposite sides of said ,b ock each having a lon itudinal slot openin into said bore, sai slots being of less wi th than the diameter of said bore,-a combinedhammer and trigger in the form of a flat bar passing throng the front ends of said slots and acrosssaid bore, the ends of said her being increased in width to form heads for preventing removal of said bar until it is turned to position its flat sides parallel with the sides of the slots, said A toy of the type described com rising an eads being spaced fifim said block,--anda N coiled spring insaid bore in rear of sa d bar, one end of said spring abutting said 42 e I h 1,266,847
bar and the other end thereof being disposed my hand in the presence of two subscribing against the inner end of said bore, said Witnesses. spring being greater in. diameter than the FRANK MULIG. width of said slots to prevent loss there- Witnesses: 5' through. FRANK On,
In testimony whereof I have her unto set JOSEPH F. GLINsKI.
