IMPROVEMENT IN FLV-DTRAPS.
Specification forming part of LettersPatent No. 126,671, dated May 14, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MILTON V. BULLA, of the city of South Bend, in the county of St. Joseph, in the State of Indiana, have invented a new and Improved Mode of Catching or Trapping Flies; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanyin g drawing and the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in so arranging attachments to a cylinder or box as to make a complete fly-trap without using cones, tubes, or anything annoying or liable to get out of order, but to immediately introduce the flies directly into a receptacle, so they can easily be destroyed; and to enable others to make and use my invention I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation. 7
In the accompanying drawing, A represents a conical cylinder of wire-cloth with closed base and movable cover for top. B represents a flanged ring of tin or other metal fastened to and around the outside of cylinder A. 0 represents a shade-rin g made flaring, it also having a flange turned inward on the top or small end. This ring is made just large enough, so that the flanged edge will hang closely 'on the flange of ring B. Flaring downward as it does, the lower edge is provided with notches or semicircular openings; D D D represent openings cut through the sides of cylinder A just below the flanged ring B, and just large enough for flies to pass through; the whole constructed as here specifled; to be set on a common tin pie-plate or plate of any kind that is large enough to extend out all around beyond the flare'oi' shade-ring O. The lower edge of the shade-ring (1 must of course rest on the plate as well as the upper edge to hang on the flange of ring B.
The flies are baited on that part of the plate between the base of cylinder A and the lower edge of shade-ring O, and, being attracted by the light, go upward to escape, pass through the openings D D D, and are entrapped.
What I claim, and wish to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the conical cylinder A, having openings D, with the flanged ring B and shade-ring 0, all constructed as and for the purpose specified.
MILTON V. BULLA.
