Description

B.W;TUTTLE Improvementn Plows.
No.l26,656. Pmemedmayrlsm UNITED -S'rn'rns PATENT @Tirion BEERI W. TUTTLE, OF GALENA, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT iN PLOWS.
Specication forming part of -Letters Patent No. 126,656, dated May 14, 1872.
To whom it may concern: 4
Be it known that I, BEERI W. TUTTLE, of Galena, in the county of Jo Daviess and State of Illinois, liave'invented a new and useful Improvement in Wheel for Grinding and Supporting Plows; and I do declare that the following is a true and accurate description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon and being a part of this speciication, in which- Figure l is an elevation of a'plow with my improvement attached, and Fig. 2 is a crosssection of the wheel and beam at the point of attachment.
Like letters indicate like parts in each gure.
'This invention has for its object the conl struction of a wheel and its attachment to a plow-beam in such a manner that the beam will be supported by the wheel traveling in the preceding furrow, and guiding it so as to insure parallel furrows and furrowslices ofv uniform width. The invention consists in the peculiar and angular brace employed for carrying the wheel, which brace is attached to the plowbeam.
In the drawing, A represents the plow-beam,
to which is secured a knee-brace, B, bent or i shaped to an acute angle. In the pendent jaws of the brace a shaft, D, is secured, on which rotates a wheel, E, hav-ing a double beveled periphery, as shown in Fig. 2. The brace extends laterally from the beam, so that the wheel travels in the preceding furrow, one of its beveled faces bearing upon the bottom ofthe furrow to support the plow-beam, and the other upon the wall or land of the furrow, to guide the plow and bring each fur-V row made parallel with the preceding one, and all of uniform width. Y
One or more wheels of similar conformation may be in like manner attached to a gang of plows, for the purposes set forth.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The construction and arrangement, with relation to the plow-beam A, of the angular brace B carrying the wheel E, constructed as described, for the purpose specified.
