provision of a structure, including a set of cells, which can be readily attached or detached from a vehicle, such as the dash board of a wagon.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a portable lamp wherein the lamp proper can be lowered or raised and can move in a horizontal plane to lie at any angle.
A further object of the invention is the construction of a cone shaped casing so that a portion of the'light rays radiating from the-reliector can be reiiected rearwardly so as to illumi ate a colored lens.
The inve tion consists in the features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, hereinafter fully described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which:

Referring to the drawing, the numeral l designates: the casing having an open end 3 closed by a sliding door 4. Positioned within the casing and electrically connected to the binding posts 5 and 6 is a pair of cells 7 adapted to feed current to a circuit under the control of a switch 9 positioned lupon the front of the casing, the casing being further provided witha handle 10 so that the casing can be readily moved from place to place.
Secured to a central portion of the casing is a. bracket '11 comprising a U-shaped frame 12' having its extremities bentback y themselvesto form spaced limbs adap contact with the opposite sides of a suitable4 support, such as a dash board 13.
Passing through one of the limbs and engaging the adjacent side of the dash board are thumb screws 14 whereby the bracket can be rigidly secured to the dash board. At the front ofthe casing is provided an L- shapedpbracket 15 having its horizontal portion provided with a vertical aperture 16 through which passes the threaded extremity 17 of va standard 18.
19 designates a nut engaging the threaded extremity of the standard whereby the latter may be rigidly held in any of its vertical adjustments. Also having connection with the threaded extremity is a thumb nut 20 whereby the standard can be manually rotated.
,The standard includes a pivotally connected bolt 21 having a threaded engagement with a projection 22 carried by a cone shaped casing 23. This cone shaped casing has its small end provided with a colored lens 24 for projecting rearwardly a signal. The peripheral edge of the large end is flanged as shown at 25 for a purpose hereinafter described.
Secured within the cone-shaped casing` in any suitable manner is a concave reiiector 26 having a well known form of electric light 30 positioned in its focus. The inner terminal of the light contacts with a spring contact member 31 which is insulated from the casing 23 and which is connected to a wire 32. Current may flow from the cells through the wire 32, spring contact 31, lamp 30, casing 23 and wire 32 back to the batter i llt will be seen that in this arrangement that the'major portion of the light rays 1s projected forwardly, while a small .portion impinges upon the inner surface of the flange 25 so as to be projected rearwardly for illuminating the colored lens. By having the standard so formed, the lamp proper can be elevated or lowered through its adjustable connection with the bracket, and can move vertically in an arc of a circle through the pivotal connection with the bolt 21 and can be rotated in a horizontal plane through connection or the projection 22 with the bolt. v
ln the modied form I have shown the device without the inner concave reector. ln this dre, 1 suprt the electric light at the small end of the cone shaped casing so as to leave an annular space 27 between the base of the electric light and the casing. rlhe small end of the cone shaped casing is further provided with a dared rim 28 in which is secured a colored lens 29. By constructing the device as shown in this igure, the colored lens can be illuminated by the indirect rays from the electric light passing through the annular space.

A lamp including a frusto-conical casing, a lens mounted yin the small end thereof, a reector arranged in the casing, the edge of manana? 'y the reilector of maximum diameter being spaced from the wall of the casing, the edge of the casing in advance of the edge of the reector being inturned, extended across the edge of the reflector and spaced therefrom, and a source of light arranged in the reector.
