Description

0. F. PRIMROSE.
ICE CREAM yFREEZER.
APPLICATION FILED MAa.x4.1e1s.
Patented May-14,1918.
OLIVER l?.y PRIIVIROSE, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
ICE-CREAM wIEIRIIEIZER.
Specification of letters Patent. Patntd lVIay 14, 1918.
Application led March 14, 1916. Serial No. 84,050.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, OLIVER F. PRIMRosn, residing at Cincinnati, Hamilton county, Stat-e of Ohio, have invented' certain new and useful Improvements in Ice- Cream Freezers, of which the following is a clear, full, and exact description, attentionbeing called to the dra-wing which accompanies this application and forms a part thereof.
This invention concerns ice cream freezers and consists of certain features of construction of the device as well. as ofthe means for opera-ting the same as will. be more fully explained hereinafter and pointed out in the claim. y
The invention is also illust-rated in the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure l, is a longitudinal central section of my freezer complete.
Fig. Q, is an end view of the device showing its left end with reference to Fig. l.
Fig. 3, shows the opposite end of the device.
Fig. il, is al vertical cross section of the device between the ends thereof.
In the drawing character B represents a cylindrical chamber which constitutes the inner holder in which the substance, cream or any mixture of substances to be frozen is contained.
The walls of this holder are preferably formed of sheet metal.
It is rigidly secured within an outer and larger cylindrical holder so as to be concentric therewith and with a space all around except at one end where said inner holder is attached for support.
This space shown at A constitutes the co ol ing jacket and is adapted to be filled with cracked ice or a mixture of ice and salt which is used for freezing the contents of holder B.
The cylindrical side of this outer holder consists of two concentric sheet metal walls E E spaced from each other to produce an insulating space F adapted to receive suitable insulating material like cork, paper, pulp, asbestos or a composition of these materials.
The ends of these sheet metal Walls are secured to the heads or ends of this outer holder.
These heads consist each of metallic plates D D. which on their inner side are lined with wood as shown at C.
At the left end and yreferring to Fig. 1 one wooden plate is used.
At the other end two such plates are used to permit of a more substantial connection of the inner holder B which is closely fitted to an opening in the head at this end and extends beyond said head where it is open to permit placing of the cream and. is provided with a lid G.
The other head has also an opening to permit placing of the ice into space A and is provided with a metallic lid G. Both lids have grooves on their inner side to it over rims g on plates D D and are provided with diametrically spaced lugs adapted to receive bolts hingedly connected to plates D D and provided with thumb nuts H I-I adapted to engage the lugs whereby said lids are detachably held in place.
Within inner holder B there are two diametrically spaced agitating blades CZ CZ eX- tending along the inside of the same.
They are angularly inclined transversely in opposite directions as may be seen in Fig. et so as to be at one edge in scraping contact with the inside of the holder.
At one of their ends these blades are connected to an angular brace I which is mounted upon a rod a extending through the center of the holder.
At one end, its inner one, this rod is supported in a socket formed in the inner end of the inner holder.
At its outer end it is supported in an opening in lid G of the holder and extends beyond this opening.
An operating handle is provided which is mounted midway upon a U-shaped frame or bail J attached to the device at opposite ends of its axial center.
For such purpose the bail at one end is bent inwardly as shown at 7 and this inturned end is fitted to a socket 71, provided in lid G.
The other end is provided with an opening e (Fig. 3) and tted to the key-shaped end c of rod a.
IVith bail J removed, the freezer is first set upon one end and then on the other and The freezer is then laid upon its side and bail J is attached, first at one end, by insertion into socket 7L after which the other end is sprung upon the key-shaped end 0 of rod a in a manner indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 1.
The freezer is then rolled back and forth by means of the handle on bail J, so as to agitate the ice in chamber A which is packed around holder B.
The agitating blades (Z d are held stationary with reference to holder B by reason of the keyed connection c-e of rod o to the bail and serve to prevent adherence of the freezing mass within holder B, to the side thereol while said side moves past the blades, serving at the saine time to smooth the mass as it passes between these blades and the side of the holder.
Having described my invention I claim as new:
In van ice cream freezer7 the combination of a cylindrical outer holder provided in each end with a concentrically positioned opening through one ol which openings it receives its charge and which opening has a removably attached lid, a. cylindrical inner holder iitted to and rigidly secured at one of its ends within the opening in the other end of the outer holder and from which end it extends inwardly, the inner holder being open at this end to permit charging and provided with a detachably held lid for this open end," agitating'blades extending lengthwise Within this inner holder and transversely inclined against the inner side thereof so as to have scraping contact therewith, a rod which carries these blades and which is positioned within the axial center of this holder and supported for rotation at one of its ends on the inner end of this holder and `at itsother end on the lid of this holder which lid is? provided with an opening for the purpose through which opening sa id rod extends, a detachable bail keyed at one end to the projecting end of said rod and at its other end pivotally seated in the center of the lid of the outer holder, said lid being provided with a socket for the purpose and a handle on the bail whereby the freezer may be rolled backand forth on the side of the outer holder to agitate the contents ot' the holders and to cause the inner side of the inner holder to move with reference to the agitating blades which are held to the bail.
In testimony whereof, I hereunto ailix iny signature.
OLIVER F. PRIMROSE.
