Description

H. C. SHAW. SUSPENSOHY SACK AND FABRIC THEREFOR. APPLICATIQN men NOV-19.1915- 1,265,968; Patented May14, 191s.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HERBERT c. SHAW, or CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGN'OR 'ro BAUER & BLACK, on CHICAGO,
' ILLINOIS, A CORPORATION or ILLINOIS. l
SUSPENSOBY SACK AND FABRIC THEREFOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 14, 1918.
Application filed November 19, 1915. Serial No. 62,275.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERBERT C. SHAW, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Reissue Patent No. 11,369, dated October 3,
1893, or by elastic cords knitted in the fabric at one edge thereof, as set forth in my Patent No. 913,855 above referred to. It has always been customary,- however, to finish the opposite edge of the fabric, which forms the rear edge of the sack or pouch, by
sewing a binding thereon to prevent this edge from stretching.
It is the object of my invention to provide an improved suspensory sack or pouch by finishing both edges thereof while the fabric is knitted, whereby the cost of manufacture is lessened and the necessity for a binding is dispensed with and a better and more attractive sack or pouch is produced.
In the accompanying drawings illustrating the invention Figure 1 is a view in perspective of a finished suspensory;
Fig. 2 shows the fabric for the sack;
Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig. '2, and Fig. 4 is a similar view on the line 4-4 of Fig. 2.
In practising my invention I provide a piece of knitted fabric of the proper size for forming the sack or pouch' l and in one selvage edge 5 thereof, which is adapted to form the penis opening, one or more elastic cords 6 are inclosed by the stitching during the knitting operation. In the opposite selvage edge 7 of the fabric piece aplurality of relatively inelastic cords 8 are inclosed and secured by the stitching as shown in Fig. 3 during the knitting operation.
The knitted fabric is folded on its transverse medial line and the ends are gathered onto a yoke 9.
Copies this patent may be obtained for five cents'each, by addressing the Washington, D. 0.
The elastic edge of the sack or pouch is formed into a penis opening being naturally puckered by the cords 6 to a reduced size, while the reinforced edge 7 which constitutes the rear edge of the suspensory sack or pouch, remains extended to the full length thereof because the cords 8 are relatively inelastic.
My improved sack or pouch is thus provided with a puckered selvage edge to form the penis opening of the suspensory and a straight reinforced substantially inelastic selvage edge to form the rear edge of the sack or pouch, which should be relatively inelastic to prevent stretching of the sack, and which has heretofore been made so by binding sewed thereon. The rear edge of the sack or pouch is made of the same material as the body thereof, the inelastic cords being wholly inclosed within the knitted stitches so that not only is the appearance of the sack or pouch improved but the soft texture of the body of the pouch is continued through the rear edge as well as through the edge of the penis opening.
I claim: 7
1. A suspensory sack or pouch composed of a single piece of knitted fabric having one or more inelastic cords knitted therein lengthwise of the piece in immovable relation thereto at one selvage edge and wholly inclosed within the stitches forming a reinforced relatively inelastic rear edge for the sack or pouch integral with the fabric piece. I
2. A suspensory sack or pouch composed of a single piece of knitted fabric having one or more elastic cords knitted therein lengthwise of the piece at one selvage edge and one or more relatively inelastic cords knitted therein lengthwise of the piece in immovable relation thereto at the opposite selvage edge, said cords being wholly inclosed within the stitches, forming a puckered, elastic edge for the penis opening and a reinforced relatively inelastic rear edge both integral with the fabric piece.
