Be it known that I, HARRY P. DIoKnRsoN,
a citizonof the United States, residing at Sherman, in the county of Grayson and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Heel-Attaching Means,,of which the following is a specifica- U011.
My invention relates to improvements in heel attaching means which, while capable of use in attaching the heels of various kinds of shoes, is particularly adapted for securing the high heels made of wood, such as used upon ladies shoes.
One object of my invention is the provision of a fastening 0r attaching means which will secure the heel in perfect position upon the shoe, which will not in any manner injure the heel, and which will retain the heel in a reliable manner under all conditions.
Another object of my invention is the pro vision of means for securing the heel which will also form a support for the soIe at the arch and which will fit over the edges of the usual fabric or leather covering used on high heels and positively retain the covering, making a neat joint and giving the heel an attractive appearance.
Another object of my invention is the provision of means for accomplishing the purposes stated which will add greatly to the general appearance and desirability of the shoe, while not increasing the cost of production.
With these objects in view my invention consists of means for attaching the heel, forming an arch support therefor and retaining the heel covering in place embodying novel features of construction and arrangement of parts, substantially as shown, described and claimed herein.

Referring by numeral to the drawings, in which similar numerals designate like parts in all the views The numeral 1 designates the upper of the shoe; 2 designates the sole; and 3 designates the heel of the shoe made of wood and having a thin leather or fabric covering 4.
Resting upon the inner face of the insole of the shoe is the combined heel securing and arch supporting plate, which'is formed with the heel portion 4 and the shank or arch support secured to the sole by fastenings 7 passed through openings 8, the plate being secured to the heel and sole by the single screw 5 passing through the plate and sole into the heel.
This construction forms a reliable. means for supporting the arch of the shoe and fastening the heel, and for the purpose of making a smooth joint between the heel and sole and for fittin over and securing the upper edge of the f abric or leather covering 4 in place, I employ the plate 9, having the central screw opening 10, and the clownturned flange 11, which fits over the edge of the covering, as shown in Figs. 2 and 4 covering and securing the covering and giving a highly ornamental and attractive appearance to the ance of the shoe.
It will be at once apparent that my im provements can be applied at small cost to shoes in use or at the time of manufacture, that they will add to the wear and desirabiL ityof the shoe, and will prove practical and efficient in every particular.
I claim:
1. In a shoe-heel attaching means, in combination with the sole, heel and heel covering, of a plate resting on top of the sole at the heel portion, a screw passing through the plate and sole into the heel, and a plate disposed between the sole and heel retained by said screw for securing the heel covering in place.
