REVERSIBLE PLQW.
Application filed January 8, 1916.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JONATHAN Hnacoon, a citizen of the United States, residing at Highlands, in the county of Macon and State of North Carolina, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Reversible Flows; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to plows, and the primary object of the invention is to provide a plow structure which includes a pivotally supported plow stock or standard having plow supporting heels formed upon each end of the same.
Another object of this invention is to provide a plow as specified, which is comparatively simple in construction and operation, which includes means for holding the ends of the plow standard rigidly during the plowing operation of the same, and further to provide a novel form of clevis'which is attached to the forward end of the plow beam so that upon the reversing of the plow shovels or shares, the line of draft of the plow may be varied for the purpose of eliminating unn cessary side draft.
With the foregoing and other objects in view this invention consists in such novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and claimed.
In describing the invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters designate like and corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of the improved plow,
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the plow,
Fig. 3 is a perspective View of the plow standard,
Fig. 4: is a perspective view of a part of the plow structure.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, l designates the beam of the plow, which is provided with a longitudinally extending opening 2 formed therein. The intermediate portion of the beam 1, which is provided with the slot 2 is greater in width than the ends 3 and 4 of the same. The rear end 4 of the beam 1 has handle carrying blocks 5 secured to its M by means of Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 7, 1918.
Serial No. 71,049.
a bolt' 6. The blocks 5 are greater in thickness than the end a and are provided with cut-out portions 7 which receive the sides of the ends 4: of the beam 1. A. shoulder 8 is formed upon the blocks, which is angled to conform to the angle of the plow handles 9. The forward edges of the lower ends of the handles 9 rest against the inner edges of the shoulders 8, thereby eliminating liability of swing or pivotal movement of the handles during operation, and providing means whereby the handles may be detachably attached to the plow beam by asingle bolt.
The beam 1 has a pin 10 extending transversely across the same equidistant of the ends of the slot 2, which pin also extends through the center of the standard 11, which is pivotally mounted upon the pin 10.
The standard 11 which is adapted to carry a plow share of ordinary construction is enlarged intermediate its ends to a width sub stantially equal to the width of the slot 2 and it is provided with an opening 12 formed therein for reducing the weight of the standard. The ends 1e and 15 of the share are reduced with respect to the thickened portion 11, and they curve oppositely therefrom, as is clearly shown in Figs. 1 and e of the drawings. The ends of the standard 11 are provided with openings 16 and 17 which are adapted to receive the heel bolts of plow shares.
The end 4 of the beam 1 has a metallic plate 20 secured to one side of the same, which is rolled to form a bearing 21. The bearing 21 rotatably supports the angled end of a rod 22. The rod 22 extends upwardly from the plow beam 1 and for- Wardly over the same. The upper end 23 of the rod 22 is screw threaded, and has a nut 24 adjustably mounted thereon, to which nut is attached a hook 25. The hook 25 is provided for engaging the upper end of the pivotally supported standard 11, for holding the same rigidly in place during the plowing action of the plow.
A clevis 26 is attached to the forward reduced end 3 of the plow beam 1 and it has its forward edge curved, as is shown at 27, for guiding the split ring usually employed for attaching a swingletree to a plow beam, from one of the corners 28 of the clevis to the other, when the plow standard is moved for changing from either a right to a left plow blade or vice versa, so as to'properly aline the draft of the plow and eliminate min free the 381119 from connection with the hook. After the standard has been disconnected iron]. the hoolc, the rod 22 is swung outwardlyiout oi? the way oi? the path of the plow share or blade carried by the standard and t no standard is reversed.
From the foregoing; description taken in connection with the QCCOH'PQQD} .ng drawings the adranta 'es of construction. and of the method of operation or" the improved reversible plow will be readily apparent to those skilled in the 't to which this inven tion appertains and, ile in the foregoing descripiion the principle of the operation of this invention has been described tog "her with various features oi construction it is to be understood that eel w minor features of construction, COlTliJiTldllOll and arrange ment of parts may be altered to suit practical conditions provided such alterations are comprehended within the scope or". Wilfih claimed.
What is claimed is:-
l. in a plow strnci the coinbivnatior'u tenor through said beam intermediate the ends of said slot, a standard pivotally mounted upon said pin, a rod carried by said beam, a nut adjustably mounted upon one end of said. rod, a hook carried by said nut and adapted for engagement with one end of said standard for holding" it rigidly in positioln the ends of said standard being curred oppositely.
in a plow structure, the combination,
or a plow beani having its intermediate portion QUlHTQfBCLj-Illd intermediate portion be 111g provlded With a longitudinally eX- tending slot, a pin extending transversely through said beam intermediate the ends of said slot, a standard pivotally mounted upon said pin, a rod carried by said beam, a nut adjust-ably mounted upon one end of said rod, a hook carried by said nut and adapted for engagement with one end oi said standard for holding itsrigidly in 'position, the ends of said standard being curved oppositely, a cleris connected to the front end of said beam, said clevis having iLS forward side curved for providing two sockets upon each side vof said beam.
In testimony wher of 1 aliix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
