Be it known that 1, JOHN MILLER JFLEM- mo, of the :city of. Edmonton, in the Province of Alberta, Dominion of Canada, have in vented certain new anduseful Improvements in Dash Ghurns, of 'whichthe following is improvements in i dash churns and the object of the invention is to providemeans for drawingai-r down into the-body of the cream "so thatuit W111-pass up through the cream and thereby drive all impurities from the cream and produce a better grade of butter and'atthe same time provide a .machine which will economize both time and labor and which may be readily adjusted :for the different sizes of vessels and: different depths of cream. The disk 46 is provided with a central orifice 36 from which the lower threaded end of the rod 43 extends.

imparting thereby a reciprocating vertical movement with the rod 26 by means of the connecting link 27 extending between the rod 26 and the crank wheel 23. By this operation the dasher of the churn isrecip-e rocated vertically in the body of cream con tained within the receptacle 9. During the upward movement of the dasher the displacement of the cream creates a vacuum which draws open the valve formed by the disk 46 allowing air to rush through the tube 33 into such space formed by the displacement of the cream. During the downward movement of the dasher upward pressure of the cream forces the disk 46 upward against the head 36 closing the orifice 36 and thereby preventing the cream rising up The air which has thereby been drawn into the body of cream rises up throughsuch body and any impurities in the cream are united therewith and carried up thereby into the atmosphere, thereby clearing the cream of all such impurities." If it is desired to ad ust the apparatus in accordance with the size of the receptacle used or the depth of the cream within the receptacle, all that is necessary to do is to loosen the bolt 6 and raise the column 7 to the required height, the main casting'15 supporting the driving gear may also be adjusted by loosening the bolt13 and raising the casting15 upward to the required height and retightening the bolt 13. 1

From this description it will be seen that I have devised a very simple form of dasher churn which may be operated manually with a minimum amount of power which may be operated more rapidly and thereby and into the center of which the lower portion of the dasher rod extends, spider members for comiecting the dasher rod to the cylindrical member, a disk valve bearing against the lower face of the head, a spider member supported within the cylindrical member in proximity to the head, a stem extendingfreely from the spider member to the lower end of which the valve disk is secured, a bearing piece carried by the upper end of'the stem, and a compression spring extending between such bearing piece andthe spider.
