To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK D. Srorswoon, a citizen of the United States, res1dmg at Lexington, in the county of Fayette and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mouth- Masks, of which the following 1s a specification. v
This invention relates to an improved mouth mask, especially designed for use by children and has as,1ts primary ob ect t0 provide a device of this character which will be provided with the representation of the human mouth or other mask feature and which may be fitted, by a child, over the mouth to be held in position the teeth for masking the mouth of the chi d.
And the invention has as a further ob ect to provide a mask of the above nature which.
will be equipped with a supporting tab or flap which may be lightly held between the teeth to support the mask in position over the mouth of the child so that It wlll be unnecessary for the child to employ the hands for supportin the mask'while, at the same 5 may talk or distort its face while the mask is in place.
Other and incidental objects will appear as the description proceeds and inthe drawings wherein I have illustrated the preferred embodiment of the invention and wherein similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several device particularly showing the mounting of a supporting tab for the mask.
In carrying out the invention, my improved mask is formed with a referably elliptical body 10. However, the ody may be of any other approved shape and is constructed of cardboard or any other suitable material. Upon its front side the bod 10 is, as particularly shown in Fig. 1 o the drawings, provided with the representation of a human mouth or other mask feature. In this connection it will, of course, be obvious that thebody 10 could be provided with the representation of the mouth of an animal or other animal feature. Formed in the upper edge of the body, midway the representation of the mouth thereon, is acurved notch 11. Below this notch, the rear side of.
the body is equipped with a supporting tab 12. T1118 supporting tab may also be formed of cardboard or any other approved material and, at one extremity, is pasted or otherwise secured to the body. The opposite extremity of the tab is, as particularly shown in Fig. 3, scored transversel so that the free end of the tab may be rea ily bent to extend rearwardly from the body.
In use, the body 10 of the mask is placed over the mouth of the child employing the device with the childs nose received within the notch 11 of the body. At the same time, the free extremity of the tab 12 is bent to project rearwardly from thc body and is inserted between the teeth. The tab may thus be lightly held between the teeth tosup ort the mask in position over the mouth. onsequentl it will be unnecessary to employ the ban s for maintaining the mask in place while, at the same time, the child may talk or distort the face at pleasure.
It will therefore be seen that I provide an exceedingly simple device and one which will prove especially attractive to children. However, I do not wish to be limited in this regard since it will be obvious that the device is also adapted for use by older people.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. -A mask including a body provided with a mask feature and adapted to be fitted by the user over a feature 0 the face for masking such feature of theface, and means carried by the body to normally lie thereagainst and movable to project laterally from the body to be received between the teeth of the user to support the body of the mask in posiinE such feature of the face, and a flexible ta carried by the body and adapted to be .to be fitted by swung lateral! therefrom to be received bein said notch tween the teet of the user to support the tremity to the body belo body of the mask in posltion. adapted to be inserted at 3. A mask includm a body having a tremit between the teeth of the user to sup- 5 notchformed in one e ge thereof and roport t e body of the mask in position.
vided with a mask feature, the body 0 the In testimony whereof I afiix my signature. mask being adapted to be fitted, by the user,
over the mouth with the nose received with- FRANK D. SPOTSWOOD, [1,, 5,]
