IMPROVEMENT IN STEAM-GENERATORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 196,47?, dated May 7, 1872.
Specification describing anew and Improved Steam- Generator, invented by WILLIAM V. MCKENZIE, of Rahway, in the county of Union land State of New Jersey.
My invention consists of a vertical cylinderboiler with vertical fines mounted in a sheetmetal cylindrical shell with a furnace below, the said cylinder being larger than the waterboiler, so as to have an annular fire-space surrounding said Water-boiler; the said shell being jacketed on the sides above thefurnace and at the top, to economize the heat; the whole constituting a simple, cheap, and efficient portable stealngenerator for cooking food for stock, and for other purposes.
Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of my improved steam-generator, and Fig. 2 is a horizontal section.

A is the vertical water-boiler, and B, the ilues extending through it from bottom to top. C is the sheet-metal jacket surrounding it, and being enough larger to provide the an nula-r tire-space D, so that the heat both surrounds the boiler and passes through it. The
said boiler is suspended in the shell by the brackets E. F is thc furnace in the lower part of shell C below the boiler. G is a jacket, of plasterot'-Paris or other non-heatconducting substance, surrounding jacket C above the tire-grate and over the top, said jacket being confined in another metal jacket, H. I is the smoke-pipe; K, the feed-water pipe 5 and L, the steam-pipe.
This improved generator is designed to supply small cheap boilers for generating low steam for cooking and other purposes, and is calculated to be very economical in respect to fuel, as Well as cheap.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- As a new article of manufacture, the prtable steam-generator consisting of the tubular boiler A, sheet-metal jacket C, furnace F, and jackets G and H, all constructed and arranged substantially as specified.
