IMPROVEMENT IN SUPPORTS FOR CHAIRS OR STOOLS.
Specilication forming part of Letters Patent No. 126,429, dated May 7, 1872.
Specication describing a certain Improvement in Stool and Chair Supports, invented by HENRY WADSWORTH, of Duxbury, Plymouth county, Massachusetts.
The invention relates to the securing of the chairs to the pedestals, and particularly in se- "cilrin g the pedestals to the door so that they will not become loose.
The following is a description of what I consider the best means of carrying out the invention. l
The accompanying drawing forms a part of this specication, and represents a central vertical section.
Ais the floor, and a a round hole bored therein, say, one inch in diameter. This rcceives a corresponding screw with a broad sharp thread, which takes a firm hold ot the wood. I) is the main body ot' the pedestal, and D1 l)2 are flanges cast thereon in the positions represented. The pedestal is formed with a screw, d1, projecting out in a line of the axis at its upper end, and a corresponding screw, d2, projecting out at the lower end. E1
E2 are collars, of cast-iron or other suitable material. G is the seat of a chair or stool. Screws, which may be ordinary wood-screws, indicated by i, are introduced through the eollars El and E2 to secure them rxnly to the work, against which they are fitted. A single screw, k, is also introduced through each ange into the adjacent collar. The screws d1 d2 should be broad and thin. They should be broad to take a strong hold of the wood, and thin to avoid occupying much space.
I claim as my invention- The within-described chair-support, having the pedestal, the end screws, and the collars combined, as an article of manufacture, substantially as herein specified.
