Be it known that I, MALooLu WALKER, a British subject, residing at Langside, Glasgow, Scotland, have invented certain new.
and useful Improvements in Buflers and Cushions for Planing-Machines and other Machines Having Reciprocating Parts, of which the following is a. specification.
This invention relates to apparatus for cushioning the reciprocating table of planing machines or other reciprocating parts of machines. l
' It consists of a magneticbufi'er comprising one or more magnetic solenoids affixed to the side or framing of the machine with dogs or catches on the reciprocating table or part of the machine to engage-and move the core of the solenoid out-of its coil-at the end of each traverse. 1
The invention will'be fullydescribed with reference to the accompanying drawings in which it is shown applied to a planing ma chine.

On one or both sides of the framing A on which the table B travels I mount. one or more electric solenoids C according to the size and weight of the reciprocating table.
Each solenoid is constructed with a soft metal core D mounted to slide horizontally, a magnetic coil E and a cast iron or other housing by which it is afiixed to the frame A.
Where two or more solenoids are employed on one side of the frame they are preferably mounted tandem, the cores D being mounted at intervals upon a non-magnetic rod or bar F extending lengthwise of the machine.

As shown the arm f is formed with a slot f with a roller H mounted within the slot or recess 7 the journals. of the roller traversing plates K with inclined ends. The dogs strike the rollerH and carry it and the. bar or rod F along other and each time act as a bufi'er to stop the traverse and in returning to accelerate the table in reverse, direction.
A switch S is mounted on the end of a spring-controlled rod N, the movement of which is effected by the levers M when oper- 'ated upon by the dogs G on the table. What I claim as my invention and desire to protect by Letters Patent is 2- 1.
