Be it known that I, NAFEW J LLOYD, a

citizen of the United States of America,

and a resident of Butte, county of Silverbow, and State of Montana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Package-Ties, of which the following is a specification. V o

The main objects of this invention are to provide an improved form of package tie of the kind wherein the ends of a flexible tying member are attached to a fastening device; and to provide a fastening device for such a package tie which is simple in design and inexpensive to manufacture, and which will securely bind the flexible tying member without the necessity of making knots in said flexible member.

An illustrative embodiment of this invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 i a top plan of a package sccured with the improved tie, showing the fastening member securing the ends of the flexible tying member together.

Fig. 2 is a view in perspective of a package, in dotted outline, showing in full outline the arrangement of the'improved package tie thereon.

Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the fastening member.

Fig. 4 is an end view of the same.

This invention relates to an improvement in that type of package tie in which the flexible tying member, usually a cord, is secured to a fastening device having an elongated body part, a tail piece on one end thereof to which the cord is attached, and a head having a hook and arms about which the other end of the cord may be fastened after having been wound around the package.

In the construction shown in the drawings, the fastening member comprises an elongated body part 1, having at one end a tail piece 2, and at the other end, a head consisting of a pair of arms 5 and 6 and a hook 7 The tail piece 2 is disposed at an angle to the longitudinal center line of the body part 1, and provided at its outer end with an aperture 3 through which the flexible binding member, preferably a cord 4, may be passed for securing one end thereof.

The arms 5 and 6 are preferably bent slightly upwardly as shown in Fig. 4, so that the cord 4 may be the more readily passed underneath the same when tying up the package. I

The hook 7 is formed by bending back upon itself a projecting end of the body part, said hook being thereby disposed medially of the arms 5 and 6. The under side of the hook 7' is roughened by forming transversely disposed corrugations 8 thereon. curely retain the tying member in' place under the hook 7 and prevent said tying member from slipping.

In the operation of the device, the fastening member 1, after having the tying member 4 attached to the tail 2, is placed near the middle of the package 9 to be secured, and is held thereon, preferably with the thumb of the left hand. The aperture 3 being spaced to one side of the longitudinal center line of the body part, the fastener when released, therefore tends to rotate slightly under the tension of the tying mem-- ber, so that the ends of the cord 4 are brought into alinement with each other and nearly in alinement with the longitudinal center line of the package. This rotation of the fastener causes the turns of the cord and shown, but it is to be understood that different methods of belaying the cord may be used and althou h but one saecific embodlment of the fastenmg device has been shown and descrlbed, details of the con struction may be altered or omitted withoutdeparting from the spirit of this invention as defined by the following claims.

I claim 1. A package tie fastener, comprising a body part, means located at one end of said body part for securing one end of a flexible tying member, a pair of transversely disposed oppositely extending arms on said body part acent the other end thereof, and a hook on said body part located adjacent to and medially of said arms and forming a continuation of said body part. said arms and hook being adapted to secure the other end of the flexible tying member.

2. A package tie fastener, comprising a body part, means located at one end of said body part and at one side of its longitudinal center line for securing one end of a flexible tying member, a pair of transversely disposed oppositely extending arms on said body part adjacent the other end thereof, and a hook on said body part located medially of said arms and forming a continuation of said body part, said arms and hook being adapted to secure the other end of the {text ble tying member.

A package tie fastener, comprising an elongated body part, a tail on one end of said body part disposed at an angle to said body part and having an aperture there through for securing one end of a flexible tying member, a pair of oppositely extending arms on said body part adjacent the other end thereof and disposed at substantially right angles to the longitudinal center line of said body part, and a hook on said other end of said body part located medially of said arms, said hook and arms being adapted to secure the other end of the flexible tying member.

A package tie fastener, comprising a body part, means located at one end of said body part for securing one end of a flexible tying member, a pair of transversely disposed oppositely extending arms on said body part adjacent the other end thereof, and a hook on said body part located medially of said arms and forming a continuabody part adjacent the other end thereof, a

hook on said body part located medially of said arms and forming a continuation of said body part, said arms and hook being adapted to secure the other end of the flexile tying member, and corrugations formed on the under side of saidhook for facilitating the retention of the flexible tying member thereto.

6. A package tie fastener, comprising an elongated body part, a tail on one end of said body par-t disposed at an angle to said body part and having an aperture there through for securing one end of a flexible tying member, a pair of oppositely extends ing arms on said body part adjacent the other end thereof and disposed at substantially right angles to the longitudinal center line of said body part, a hook on said other end of said body part located medially of said arms, said hook and arms being adapted to secure the other end of the flexible tying member, and transversely disposed corrugations .on the under side of said hook for facilitating the retention of the flexible tying member thereto.

7. A package tie fastener, comprising a body part, means located atone end of said body part for securing oneendof flexible tying member, a pair of transversely ,disposed oppositely extending arms on said body part adjacent the other end thereof,

and a hook on, said body. part vlocated medially of said arms and adapted to grip and retain a flexible tying -member thereunder,

said arms being adapted to have the flexible tying member belayed therearound. V
