ELEVATOR CONTROLLER;
APPLICATION FILED PHIL 23.1916.
1,262,617., Patented Apr. 16, 1918.
other words, it may be rendered so sluggish in its operation that unless the car is halted in its travel upon reaching a landing the link of the retiring cam will successively engage both hatchway cams corresponding to said landing with such rapidity as to prevent action of said retiring cam to release the door of such landing.
. Hence if a car is called to a particular landing all doors will be maintained locked until the car reaches'and stops at said landing and stealing of the car by openlng of the door of some other landing will be positively precluded. Moreover, it will be observed that the aforesaid operation of the locking and tripping mechanism is in no wise dependent upon or affected by the elec trical system utilized for control of the car.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a control mechanism for elevator landing doors, the combination with a landing door lock, of means tending to trip said look upon landing positioning of the elevator and self controlled means acting upon through operation of the elevator to prevent tripping action of the former means.
2. In a control mechanism for elevator landing doors, the combination with a landing door lock, of a mechanicaldevicetending to trip said look upon landing pos1t1oning of the elevator and self controlled means functionally operable by power derlved from the elevator to prevent tripping action of the former means except upon arrest of the elevator in landing position.
3. In a control mechanism for the landing doors of an elevator, the combination with a landing door lock, of means tending to trip said lock automatically upon landing positioning of the elevator, said means being ineffective in all other positions of the elevator and including means-providing a time element in the tripping action thereof whereby it is rendered ineffective for tripping of said lock except upon arrest of the elevator. V
4. In acontrol mechanism for the landing doors of an elevator, the combination with a lock for each door, of mechanical means for tripping said locks automatically upon positioning of the elevator at landings corresponding to said locks, said means being effective only in landing positions of the elevator and including means providing a time element in the tripping action thereof whereby it is rendered inefi'ective for tripping said locks except upon arrest of the elevator. i
5. In a control mechanism for elevator landing doors, the combination with a lock for each door, of-a mechanical tripping device for said locks movable with the elevator and self controlled means acting upon said device during approach of the elevator to each landing to render said device temporarily ineffective, for the purpose set forth.
6. In a control mechanism for elevator landing doors, the combination with a lock for each door, of a mechanical tripping device for said locks movable with the elevator and tending to assume a tripping position, and displacing means for said device whereby the latter is temporarily withdrawn from tripping position upon approach of the elevator to each landing and by power derived from the elevator. V I v 7. In a control mechanism for the landing doors of an elevator, the combination with a lock for each door, of a mechanical device movable with the elevator and including a movable part tending to trip said locks automatically upon positioning of the elevator at their correspondinglandings, means for displacing said movable part from tripping position upon approach ofsaid elevator to each landing and means for retarding return of said part to tripping position to thereby necessitate arrest of the elevator for tripping action thereof. Y
8. In a control mechanism for the landing doors of an elevator, in combination, a looking device for each door, each of said devices having a tripping part, a device movable with the elevator to actuate said tripping part of said locking devices, said actuating device being biased in a direction distinct from its direction of travel and being ineffective when displaced against its bias and means acting upon the approach of the elevator to each landing to displace said actuating device and release the same in landing position of the elevator.
9. In a control mechanism for the landing doors of an elevator, in combination, a looking device for each door, each of said devices havinga tripping part, a device movable with the elevator to actuate said tripping part of said locking devices, said actuating device being biased in a direction distinct from its direction of traveland being inefiective when displaced against its bias, means opposing biased movement of said actuating device to insure a delayed return thereof, and means acting'upon the approach of the elevator to each landing to displace said actuating device and release the same in landing position of the elevator.
10. In a control mechanism for the landing doors of an elevator, the combination with a lock for each door, a pivoted member movablewith the elevator and biased toward a position whereby the same tends to trip said locks automatically upon positioning of the elevator at their corresponding landings, a plurality of stationary cams placement thereof whereby the same is renlocated at each landing for displacing said dered ineffective to trip said locks except member from tripping position during ap upon arrest of the elevator. 10 proach of the elevator into each landing po- In Witness whereof, We have each heresition and for releasing the same in landing unto subscribed our names.
