A further object of my invention is to provide improved mechanism having a safety device for preventing foreign substances from getting into the screen.
A further object of my invention is to provide an improved machine in which the feeding and crushing mechanism is readily accessible for cleaning and repair.
A further object of my invention is to providean improved pulp machine in which the drier pulp is uniformly mixed with-the juicier pulp to insure a uniform product.

lteferring now to the drawings in detail, the pulp machine comprises an elongated cylindrical headed apertured receptacle 10, a rotary stirrer or agitator 11 for forcing the fruit through the apertures in the receptacle a drain pan 12 which receives the material forced through the apertures in the receptacle 10; an outlet 13 for the discharge of the material which is not forced through the apertures in the receptacle, mechanism 14 for feeding the fruit to the receptacle 10 and breaking it up, driving mechanism 15 for the agitator 11 and feed mechanism 14 and a frame 16 for supporting the receptaclelO, driving mechanism 15, etc.
The receptacle 10 comprises a lower semicylindrical apertured screen 17 and a semicylindrical hood 17 which can be removed to permit access to the interior of the receptacle, a feed head 18at one end of the receptacle 10 and a discharge head 19 at the other end of the receptacle.
The agitator 11 comprises a plurality of. paddles 20 secured to rotatable spiders 21.
The drain pan 12 extends beneath the receptacle and is provided with an outlet 22 and is hinged at one side to the frame 16 at 23 and latched to the other side of the frame at 24. I

The driving mechanism 15 comprises a shaft 29 to. which the spiders 21 and worm 25 are secured, mounted in suitable bearings 30 and 31 at the end of the frame 16; a pulley 32 drivenfrom any suitable source of power not shown and any suitable clutch member 33 for connecting and disconnecting the shaft 29 with respect to the'pulley 32.
The screen 17 has its end edges permanently secured to the heads 18 and 19 and its side edges fixedly secured to the side member 34 of the frame. The hood 17 is detachably secured in position by means of the eccentric clamps 35 which force the sealing strips 36 into engagement with the laterally extending flanges 37 of the screen 17. p

1 and 2.
The outlet 22 of the drain pan is nearer the discharge head of the pulper. The slope of the drain pan from the discharge end to the outlet 22 is considerably steeper than the slopefrom thefeed end. The reason for this is that the material forced through the screen 17' is juiciest at the feed end and driest at the discharge end and the juicier material runs much more freely than the drier material, the juicier material requiring a lesser slope to cause it to flow toward the outlet. As a result of these difl'erent slopes of the drain pan, the juicier material is uniformly mixed with the drier material and the result is 'a uniform product.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a pulp machine, a headed receptacle, an apertured headed cylindrical casing secured adjacent said head; a shaft coaxial with said casing and extending through said casinghead; a feed worm in said casing sleeved on such shaft for forcing the fruit through the casing aperture into the receptacle; an agitator in the receptacle for forcing the fruit through the receptacle apertures; a frame for supporting said N- ceptacle and a bearing bracket for said shaft extensiondetachably secured to said frame whereby when said bearing bracket is removed, said casing and worm may be slipped ofi' from said shaft. a
2. In a pulp machine, an elongated afiy ne fruit .tator operating in said receptacle for forcingthe fruit through said aperture; an elongated dram pan located beneath said receptacle, and having an outlet therefrom,
near the other end of the receptacle, said drain pan having-a surface slo ing downwardly from the supply end 0 the receptacle and having a surface'sloping down-' necaeeo ward from the other end of the receptacle, saidsecond sloping surface, being substantially steeper than the first whereby the drier pulp will be uniformly mixed with the juicier pulp.
3. In a pul machine a perforated screen, a substantial y horizontal rotatable shaft, a sweep secured to said shaft and moved thereby to force the fruit through said screen, and means for breaking up the fruit and supplying it to said screen comprising a feed device coaxial with said shaft and driven thereby, and a casing for said feed device having an aperture through which said feed device squeezes the fruit, the apertured portion of said casing overlying said screen. i
4. A fruit-pulping machine comprising a perforated screen, a substantially horizontal shaft, a sweep secured to said shaft for forcing the fruit through the perforations in the screen, means for receiving the pulp forced through said screen, other means for discharging the refuse which is not forced through said perforated'screen, and means for breaking up the fruit and supplying it to the perforated screen, comprising a partition surroundin said shaft and lying in a plane substantially perpendicular to said shaft and having an opening therein and means for squeezing the fruit through said opening. v
5. A fruit pulping machine'comprising a perforated screen, a substantially horizontal shaft, means secured to said shaft for forcing the fruit pulp through said screen, means for receiving the pulp forced through said screen, other means for discharging the refuse which is not forced through said screen, and means for breaking up the fruit and supplying it to the perforated screen com rising a partition through which said sha t extends, lying in a plane substantially perpendicular to said shaft and having an opening therein, and a rotatable helical feed device coaxial with said, shaft for squeezing the fruit through the opening in said partition. 7
6. A fruit-pulping machine comprising-"a perforated screen, a substantially horizontal shaft a sweep secured to said shaft for forcing the fruit-pulp through the perforated screen, means for receiving the pulp forcedv through the screen, other means for discharging the refuse which is. not forced through the screen, and means for breaking up the fruit and supplying it to the'perforated screen comprlsmg a chamber into which said shaft extends, having an opening therein leading from the chamber to the screen, and a feed devicecoaxial with said shaft and operating in said chamber for squeezing the fruit through the opening in said chamber to said screen.
7. A fruit-pulping machine comprising a perforated screen, a substantially horizontal shaft, a sweep secured to said shaft for forcing the fruit-pulp through said perforated screen, means for receiving the pulp forced through said screen, other means for discharging the refuse not forced through said screen, and means for breaking up the fruit and supplying it to the perforated screen comprising a chamber intowhich said shaft extends, having an opening leading from said chamber to said perforated screen, and a helical feed device coaxial with said shaft and operating in said chamber to squeeze the fruit through the opening from said chamber to said perforated screen.

A fruit-pulping machine comprising a perforated screen, a substantially horizontal shaft, a sweep secured to said shaft for forcing the fruit through said perforated screen, means for receiving the pulp which is forced through said screen, other means for discharging the refuse which is not forced through said screen, and means for breaking up the fruit and supplying it to the perforated screen comprising a chamber into which said shaft extends, said chamber hav: ing a wall lying in a plane substantially perpendicular to said shaft, said wall having a series of openings therein surrounding said shaft, and a screw propeller device secured to said shaft and operating in said chamber to squeeze the fruit through said openings from the chamber to the perforated screen.

A fruit pulping machine comprising a perforated screen, a substantially horizontal shaft, a sweep secured to said shaft for forcing the fruit through said screen, means for receiving the pulp forced through said screen, other means for discharging the'refuse not forced through said screen, means for breaking up the fruit and supplying it to the perforated screen comprising a chamber through which said shaft extends having openings leading from said chamber to said screen, and a feed device operating in said chamber to squeeze the fruit through said openings to said screen, a chamber having a passage through which fruit is supplied to said screen, said chamber having an opening on its upper side to receive the fruit and having a wall through which said shaft extends, and a bearing for the end of the shaft which extends through said wall.
10. A fruit-pulping machine comprising a perforated screen, a substantially horizontal shaft, a sweep secured to said shaft for forcing the fruit through said screen, means for receiving the pulp forced through said screen, other means for discharging the refuse not forced through said screen, means for breaking up the fruit and supplying it to the perforated screen comprising a chamber into which said shaft extends, having an opening leading from the chamber to said screen, and a feed device coaxial with said shaft and operating in said chamber to squeeze the fruit through said openings to said screen, an upwardly-openin hopper for supplying fruit to said feed evice, bearings for said shaft, and a pulley for driving said shaft secured thereto at the end of the shaft which is distant from the hopper.

A fruit-pulping machine comprising a cylindrical perforated screen, a substantially horizontal shaft coaxial with said screen, a sweep secured to said shaft for forcing the fruit through saidscreen, a pan be' neath said screen for receiving the pulp forced therethrough, means for discharging the refuse not forced through said screen, and a frame for said machine comprising two end supports, one adjacent each end of said screen, and two side members, one on each side of said screen extending between and secured to said end members, said pan being secured to and supported by said sidemembers.
12. A pulping machine comprising a cylindrical perforated screen, a substantially horizontal shaft coaxial with said screen, a pan underneath said screen for receiving the pulp forced through said screen, means for discharging the refuse not forced through said screen, and a frame for said machine comprising two end supports one at each end of said screen, and two side members one at each side of said machine, and extending between and secured to said end members, said pan and screen being securedto and supported by said side members.

A pulping machine comprising a cylindrical screen, a substantially horizontal shaft coaxial with said'screen, a sweep secured to said shaft for forcing the fruit through said screen, a pan underneath said screen for receiving the pulp forced through said screen, means for discharging the refuse not forced through said screen, means for breaking up the fruit and supplying it to the perforated screen comprising a chamber into which said shaft extends having an opening from said chamber to said screen, and a feed device operating in said chamber to squeeze the fruit through said opening, and a frame for said machine comprising two end supports one at each end of said screen, and two side members, one at each side of said screen extending between and secured to said end breaking up the fruit and supplying it to the perforated screen comprising a chamber into which said shaft extends having an opening from said chamber. to said screen, and a feed device operating in said chamber to squeeze the fruit through said opening, and a frame for said machine comprising two "end supports one at each end of said screen, and two side members one at each side of said screen extending between and secured to said "end members, said pan and screen being secured to and supported bysaid side members.
15. A pulping machine comprising a .cylindrical perforated casing, a substantially horizontal shaft coaxial with said casing, a
sweep secured to said shaft for forcing the fruit through the perforations in said casing, means for receiving the pulp forced throu h said perforations, means for discharglng the refuse not forced through said perforations, means for breaking up the 'fruit and supplying it tothe perforated screen comprising a chamber into which said shaft extends having an opening from said 1 chamber to said casing, and means operating in said chamber for squeezing the fruit.

A pulping machine comprising a cylindrical perforated casing, a substantially horizontal shaft coaxial with said casing, a sweep secured to said shaft for forcing the fruit through the perforations in said casing, means for receiving the pulp forced through said perforations, means for discharging the refuse notforced through said perforations, means for breaking up the fruit and supplying it to the perforated screen comprising a chamber into which said shaft extends, having an opening from said chamber to said casing, and means operating in said chamber for squeezing the fruit through said opening, said screen comprising two semi-cylindrical portions, and means for clamping said semi-cylindrical portions together comprising a plurality of manually-operated levers.
