IMPROVEMENT IN FLV-TRAPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 126,180, dated April 30, 1872.
Specification describing a new and useful 1mprovement in Fly-Traps, invented by PERRY A. BURGESS, of Butler, in the county of Bates and State of Missouri.
This invention relates to a new and useful improvement in a device for catching flies; and consists in a flanged disk of wood or other suitable material, with a central hole and an interior recess filled with some absorbent material, as soft leather, felt, or sponge, theconstruction and arrangement being as hereinafter more fully described.
The accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a vertical central section of the device connected with a vessel, as when in use. Fig. 2 is a view of the lower or reverse side.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the disk, which may be made of wood or other suitable material, with a surrounding flange, B, for keeping it on the vessel on which it is placed. E is a central hole and F is an absorbent of felt, sponge, or similar material, which is attached to the under side of the disk A, by means of cement, or in any convenient manner. Around the central hole in the disk a recess, D, is made, in which the absorbent F is secured.
The disk is placed on a tumbler or similar vessel, as seen in Fig. 1, the vessel being nearly filled with soap-suds or other liquid. The absorbent F is filled 0r smeared with molasses or other substance for attracting the flies. The flies enter through the central hole E and seek the bait on the piece F, and drop into the liquid beneath and are destroyed.
This device is designed to take the place of the simple pasteboard now in use for a similar purpose. By making it with" a surrounding flange to fit over the vessel, it will not be displaced by moving it about, and forms a most forth.
