Description

ROBERT M. THOMAS. Improvement in Hour-Mills.
Patented April 23,'1872.-
A'rnNT OFFICE.
ROBERT M. THOMAS, OF BRADY, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN FLOUR-MILLS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 126,101, dated lApril 23, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT M. THOMAS, of Brady, county of Indiana and State of Pennsylvania, have invented an Improved Flour- Mill 5 7 and I do hereby declare the following to be an exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the' letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents a side elevation of the mill. Fig. 2 shows a side View of the runningstone With its cross-head and gum or elastic Washers.
The nature of my invention consists in the vertical feed-hole in the stationary stone, and the elastic washers under the ends ofthe c'rosshead of the running-stone.
A represents the frame of an ordinary or common portable flouring mill, supporting` common millstones B G, shaft- D, shaft-boxes E E, band-pulley G, cover H, and hopper J.
The object of myinvention is to facilitate the feeding ofthe stones with grain by constructing the feed-hole K vertically from the circumference of the stationary upright stone, (commonly called the bed-stone,) so that the feedhole carries the grain vertically downward,
and it passes out through the slightly-curved feed-hole at the center of the millstones B and C, as shown by the dotted lines K in the stationary stone Bof Fig. 1, thus giving a more constant and regular passage for the grain Without choking. yielding motion of the running-stone O by means of the gum-elastic Washers L L L L under the en ds of the cross-head M, that supports the running-stone G, and enables it to Work with greater accuracy, while the setting of the stone is facilitated and correctly adjusted by the nutsN N N N of the screw-bolts passing through the ends of the cross-head M into the running-stone O.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isA
The bed-stone B, provided with the feedhole K, in combination with the runner O, spring-washers L L, and cross-head M, all constructed and arranged to operate substantially as herein described. v ROBERT THOMAS.
