To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, DANIEL N. HUMPHREY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Torrington, in the county of Litchfield and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Window-Screens; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to improvements in adjustable window screens. The object of this invention is to provide a screen equipped with novel means whereby it may be adjusted to fit various size window frames and at the same time exclude and obviate all openings and exits, which will permit flies to enter from the exterior to the interior.

A further novelty of this invention is to provide an adjustable window screen, which comprises a pair of upper sections and a pair of lower sections, each pair being adjustably connected together and the upper and lower sections being adjustably connected together, thus the screen sections may be adjusted for heights and widths to compensate for window frames of various sizes and the sections provided with means whereby they may be held in adjusted po-- sition. k v

A still further object of this invention is to provide an adjustable window screen of this character, which will be simple, durabio and efficient, and which may be manufactured and sold at a; comparativelylow cost. V

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described and set forth in the claims hereto appended.

Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates the screen in its entirety, and it comprises an upper screen member 2 and a lower screen member 3. The upper screen member comprises a pair of sections 4 and 5 respectively, while the lower screen member 3 comprises the sections 6 and 7 respectively. The lower screen member 3 is slidably and adjustably mounted in the up per screen. member 2 for compensating for window frames of various heights. The sections of the upper and lower screen members are adjustably connected together with one another, compensating for windows of various widths.

The sections 4 and 5 of the upper screen member, each comprise a rectangular frame having the inner side rails 8, top rails 9 and bottom rails 10 and enlarged outer side rails 11 to which is secured a suitable screen ma- The side rails 11 of each of the sections 4 and 5 are enlarged and project laterally beyond the plane of the top and bottom rails 9 and 10 on one side face thereof as shown, and the purpose of which will be hereinafter more fully described. The outer side rails 11 of the sections 4 and 5 of the upper member 2 project laterally as described in opposite directions, thus they constitute stops limiting the inward movement of the sections 4 and 5, relatively-to one another, when slidably and adjustably connected together as will be hereinafter more fully described. j

'The outer side rails 11 of'each of the sections 4 and 5 are provided on one face with the vertically extending dove-tail grooves 13, which are adapted to receive dove-tail ribs 14 arranged on the outer enlarged side rails 11 of the bottom section of the lower member 3 It is to be understood that the construction of the lower member 3 is identical with the construction of the top member 2. Thus when the dove-tail ribs on the enlarged outer rails 11 of the outer member are slidably fitted in the dove-tail grooves 13, in the enlarged outer rails 11 of the top members, they may be adjusted to fit window frames of various heights.

The dove-tail ribs in the outer enlarged rails 11 of the lower member 3 are provided with a plurality of relatively spaced recesses 15, in which is adapted to be removably fitted, the reduced end 16 of the locking member 17. The locking member 17 is am ranged to extend through the outer face of the enlarged side rails 11 of the upper member 2 as shown in Fig. '6.
