Description

HANNAH JACOBS I HARRY JACOBS.-
HAIR LRYING AND WAVING APPARATUS.
APPLICATION FILED MAY Io. 1911.
Patented Mar. 19, 1918.
s met DRYJING AND WAVING, APPARATUS.
tacones.
To all/whom z't may Concern.' l
Be it known that we', HANNAH J ACoBs and HARRY JACoBs, citizens 'of'the United States, land residents of Brookl. New York, in the county of Kings and tate of New York, haver invented certain new and useful Improvements in lHair Drying and Waving Apparatus, of which the following is a specification. v
Our invention relates to improvements 1n hair drying and waving apparatus and is in the `nature of an improvement over a .previous application filed on December 14, 1916, bearing SerialNumber 137026 and allowed April 12,191?. f y
In a numberof establishments more than one set of drying units, com rising one complete apparatus, is used an for such establishments the apparatus disclosed in this application is partlcularlyapplicable. It consists ,essentially of a single unit for supplying air under pressure to all of the sets of appara-tus in use in the establishment. We also show a special form of drying unit or tube which may be usedin conjunctionwith this system.
ln the drawing Figure 1 is a general view of the apparatus showing piping leading to their terminals and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectin through a drying member particularly adapted to this apparatus.
Referring to the parts, 1 designates a tank or reservoir provided with a pressure gage or indicator 2. rlhe reservoir 1 is kept normally Charged with air by means of the compressor pump 3 and motor 4. The capacity of the reservoir 1 is regulated to the requirements at Aend of the line or main 5 and this capacity is constantly kept up to the requirement by the action of the'said pump 3 and motor 4 in conjunction with an automaticy control which forms part of the gage or indicator'2, but which is not shown`l in detail. f
A blow 0E valve 6 and a shut olf valve 7 are provided in the line 5 near the reservoir each ofv which is provided with a valve 11.
The said outlets 10 may be grouped in any desired number. shown but three to a. group.
Specication of Letters Patent.
0n the drawing we have Patented Mar. ie, iets.
Applicatioifled May 10, i917. I Serial No. 167,751. i
Connected to each outlet 10 by means of a flexible tube 12 is a drying unit 13, shown in enlarged section in Fig. k2 and which consists of an outer tube 14 and an inner tube l'concentrically connected by means of the head 16. The said head 16 is made of heat resisting material and is formed with a central perforation leading into the tube 15. The outer tube 14 is formed with'the perforations or outlets 18 and is provided .with an annular air deflecting rim or ledge 19. The outer tube 14 is further provided with a spirally wound electrical resistance element'20 terminating in the conductor 21 and the said electrical unit 20 is covered with a heat and elect-rical insulating material 22.
Suspending rings 23 may be provided to afford a means for suspending the drying unit when saine is in use.
In operation, after the drying unit has been placed over the winding stem with hair upon it, air is allowed to pass through the drying unit 13 where it 1s heated by means of the electrical resistance' unit 20, through which the current has been-'previously directed. rlhe heated air assing through the heating unit dries the ha1r upon the stem inclosed within the said drying unit.
The electrical resistance element may be located as indicated bythe dotted lines 24 or one electrical resistance unit may be employed for each set or group of outlets. yThe v number of groups or sets of outlets are only limited by the ca acity of the reservoir which as hereinbe ore stated is constantly charged to the particular ,Capacity required by automatic means. 5
It is obvious that we may embody various modifications without de arting from the spirit of our invention. e donot therefore wish to be understood as limiting ourselves t0 t-he particular construction above.
What we claim and desire to secure by- 2. In a hair drying and waving appara-y tus, a plurality of hair drying units adapted to engage and inclose winding stems haying Kings and State of New York, this 9th day hair wound thereon, a, reservoir adapted to of May A. D. 1917. l
contain air under pressure, means for con- HANNAH JACOBS.
' veyng ythe air from the. said reservoir to HARRY JACOBS.v 5 the said drying units and means for heating Witnesses:
the air in the said dryingl units. HERMAN An'rennn,
Signed.v at New York in the county of S. S. SUGAR.
