Description
GUY SANTOMAURO, OF LOS ANG-ELES, CALIFORNIA.
I-IAIR- CLIPPER.
Application filed January 8-, 1917.
To all wkom Z't may concern;
Be it known that I, GUY SANTOMAURO, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the County of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hair-Clippers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to hair clippers, and pertains especially to that type of clipper having a cutting bar provided with teeth upon which reciprocates a knife bar provided with corresponding teeth.
Heretofore in cutting hair with clippers to produce a feather hair Cut, a fine clipper which Cuts the fine hair close to the neck and cuts it short has been used at the base of the head. A second clipper is then used farther up on the head just above the cuts made by the fine clipper. This second clipper is Coarser and produc'es a hair stubble of greater length than the first clipper. The use of two clippers alone produces a ridge between the stubble left by the fine clipper and the stubble left by the coarse clipper. In order to effect a neat appearing job, it has been necessary for the operator to pick out the hairs on the ridge between the two diiferent length stubbles by means of a comb and cut with scissors to produce a surface at the ends of the stubble which uniformly tapers from the short stubble to the long stubble. This is a very tedious operation and requires a very expert operator to ef fect a neat ob. The work consumes a relatively great length of time even with the most expert operator and the effect produced is not perfect.
It is an object of this invention to pro Vide a clipper which may be used to Cut hair so as to leave a stubble graduated from a short to a longer stubble.
It is another object of this invention to provide a clipper which will do the work of both the fine and coarse clippers, and which will do work intermediate of the two clippers before mentioned.
My improved clipper is intended to do away with the coarse and fine clippers above referred to, and comprises a clipper, which in general appearanoe, is the same as the ordinary hair clipper, but has a heel on its lower surface. V
accomplish these objects by means of the embodiment of my invention illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a side view of a clipper.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 19, 1918.
SerialNo.141,158
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary view of the bottoni of a modified form.
Fig. 3 is a front view of a modified form of clipper.
More specifically, e indicates a cutter bar which is comprised of a body of Substan tially rectangular form, and is provided at the front edge with a series of cutting teeth Secured to the body of the Cutter bar et is a handle 6. Haudle 6 is preferably integral with the cutter bar, but may be connected in any manner found eXpedient. The handle 6 is provided with a finger thumb grip 7, and is of the form usual in clippers.
The knife bar is indicated by 8, and is provided with teeth which correspond to the teeth on the cutter bar. The knife bar S is mounted upon cutter bar l: in such position that it may be reciprocated with respect to the cutter bar, and is provided with the usual means for guiding it in its movement. A handle 9 for reciprocating the cutter bar is mounted within the body 12 of the clipper, and is suitably connected to the lnife bar. The handle 9 is provided with a finger stop 10 of the usual form. The Construction just described is that of an ordinary clipper. l
My clipper diifers from the ordinary clipper in that, the surface of the cutter bar is provided with a raised heel portion indicated by 13 in Fig. 1. The heel shown in Fig. 1 is preferably integral with the cutter bar. The heel portion may be detachable and adjustable, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3. In Figs. 2 and 3, a heel bar 14 is disposed upon the surface of the cutter bar.
' Side fingers 15 and 16 are provided which grip the upper surface of the cutter bar, and hold the heel bar upon the Cutter bar in any adjusted transverse position.
In the use of my improved clipper, the hecl rests against the head and the clipper may be rocked about the heel. When it is rocked forward with the teeth close to the head a fine Cut is made in the hair. As the hair is cut upward upon the head the clip per is rocked about the heel with the teeth away from the surface of the head, thereby cutting a longer stubble. In this way hair may be graduated and a single clipper used. The handles of the clippers 6 and v9 are shortened in order that the clipper may be properly rocked and to allow room for working in and around the coat collar and the neck when cuttng hair.
