IMPROVEMENT IN ASH-SIFTERS.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 125,906, dated April 23, 1872.
i ject to make a sieve of this description more efficient and easier of operation, as will be fully described hereafter.
Figure l of the accompanying drawing is a perspective view of the sieve and detachable bottom as used together. Fig. 2 is a bottom view. Fig. 3 is a vertical section through the ian ged head upon which the sieve works.

General Description.
The sieve shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing is constructed in accordance with my invention, and is ready for operation when the substance to be sifted is placed within it.
A represents the receiver, provided with suitable wiregauze, or other sittin g medium,
stretched across the opening in the bottom, and
furnished with a cover and suitable handles B is a cover or head, `made of such form as to i lit over and cover up the top of the barrel or receptacle into which the refuse dust or ashes is sifted. It is provided with a circular opening, in which the circular ange C, projecting from the bottom of the sieve A, fits and turns. D D are rollers held in suitable bearings projecting from the bottom of the sieve and arranged to run upon the head B when the sieve is operated.
The arrangement of the cover or head B and the circular angeC confines the dust and ashes within the barrel when the sieve is operated, and prevents them escaping into the air; and the friction-rollers D render the operationof siftin g comparatively easy.
Claim.
The combination, with the sifter A, provided with its ianged bottom C and rollers D D, of the iianged cover and track B, constructed .and operating substantially asdescribed.
