To all whom iii may concern:
Be it known that 1, WASHINGTON T. CLAY- and is also adapted for drawing hexagonal shapes.
It has generally been the practice to. prepare for drawing the hexes as they are called by providing a stock in which dies are placed and to have a separate die for each face of the hex and the dies have been arranged radially about a central orifice through which the wire or rod is to pass. Each die is adjusted or moved into position by a separate screw or set of screws and the process of adjusting these several dies is a tedious and lengthy procedure requiring considerable skill and is not entirely accurate as burs are not infrequently present on the finished product.
It is the purpose of my invention to provide a more simple set of dies than has been hitherto constructed and to insure smoother and more perfectly formed shapes than is possible under the old method.

The dies herein shown are six in number and are carried by a die holder, one of which is in the form of a truncated cone provided with rectangular longitudinal extending opening 2 with two key receiving-offset recesses 3 and 4. The twin dies 5 to 6 are duplicates of one another to correspond in form to the twin dies 7 to 8. The outer or side dies 9 and 10 are duplicates but they are of different form from those dies designated 5 to 8 both inclusive. Each twin die is pro vided with a hex face forming the edge 11 and each die is provided with a plane side 12 and a curved or concave side 12 The form of the twin die is best shown in Figs. 4 and 5. The die 10 (one of which is shown in Fig. 6) is provided with a plane side or face 13 and a convex face 13*. The curvature of the face of each side die is coincident with the curvature of the concave faces of the twin dies as will be hereinafter explained.
14 and 15 designate keys adapted to be receivedjwithin the recesses 3 and 4. The .one designated 15 is for the purpose. of keying the twin dies 5 to 8 both inclusive. llt will be noted that the keys are slightly tapered so that when they are driven into the recesses they will have a wedging efi'ect upon the dies against which they bear. llt is also noted that difierent sized dies may be introduced into the central opening 2 of the chuckand as the smaller dies are employed certain inserts in the form of plates'may be used forming the space between the walls of the recesses.
. In the assembling the parts the dies 5 to 8 both inclusive are arranged in pairs with the plane faces of adjacent dies back to back and the outting'edges of the respective sides of the twin dies are adjacent to each other and slightly spaced apart. The sets of twin dies are held between the side dies 10 with the convex faces of the side dies fitting into the concave faces of the twin dies so that the 'curved edges of each twin die provides one through the opening 17, but as the diameter of the die is larger than the opening the wire will partake of the form of the opening in the usual manner.
It will be observed that the edge of each twin die is curved in the arc of a circle at the beveled portion so that the ends curve away from the center and when all the parts are assembled the entrance and exits of the opening 17 are larger than the central portion which operates upon the stock of said opening 17 This provides a guiding entrance and also upset or displaced metal during the drawing process.
1? rom the foregoing itwi1l be apparent that the dies may be assembled and removed when desired and accurately adjusted for the purpose intended.
What ll claim is In a device of the character described, spaced pairs of twin dies, each die having an inner hex edge, a flat side and a concaved side, the corresponding fiat sides of each pair of dies being disposed in contacting engagement, with the hex edges of the respective pairs of dies arranged in spaced confronting relation, the inner edges of the twin dies being curved longitudinally and beveled transversely, side dies, each having a fiat side and a convex side, said convex side of each die fitting in the concaved side of one 20 WASHINGTUN ll.
