The inner end of the rod 24 is formed or provided With a hill 25 adapted to engage against the peripheries of disks '26 and 27 or he entered into the respective notches 28 and 529 or". the hitter, according to the relathe rotary positions of the same.
More particularly, the disk 26 is rotatably mounted on a l 80 provided in the casing and the otlw d is secured to an operating post otatahie in bearings 32 and. 3:2 r 'oectiva pl'OildfiCl. in the boss and in b0 \"91 I tschably secured in of holes 34, Fig. 8, proof the disk 26 and .ped'lingcr 35 exi'i 'ihcry of the disk 27 the latter; through the 31, the disk 26 may also any one l ":idcd ir eng g'ageahh tendr so that l agency of t be rotated.
On the cover: is provided a dial 36 having graduation mar-ks disposed so that the revoluble posit n of the finger may be indicated through the medium of a pointer 37 provided, on the post In operatior'i, the post 25 is manipulated to first turn the disk 27 in one direction so 'tl it the finger 35 thereof will serve through its engagement with the stud to turn the disk 26 to present the notch 28 in position to receive the bill of the shackle rod connection 2t. Said post then turned in the opposite direction to move the disk 27 to have its notch 2.? brought into coincidence with the notch 28 to fiilGW the hiii. 25 to entcr both notches. The shackle may then he withdraiivn 'i'ozn the casing; the operator thereupon si'vinging the shackle to one side, as indicated hy broken a; in Fig. 3, for engaging about or disengaging from the hand lever 10.
To render the lock operative, the shackle legs are pushed into the casing sockets sufliciently to disengage the rod 24 from the disk being thereupon. disar;
notches, the di the post 31 in either d1,-
casing by chan the stud 33 from one of the holes to nether by positioning the disk 26 so that its notch will accommodate the rod bill and noting the position which the other disk will assume, as indicated by the pointer 37 with reference to the dial marks after the cover is replaced.
T he cover can only be removed after With drawing screw 18 and, in consequence of the screw being located Whereat it is masked by the hand lever 10 when the lock is engaged, it is apparent that the combination cannot be changed when the lock is employed, nor the operative parts otherwise tampered with.
What ll claim is 1. in a locking device for automobiles, the combination with a lever thereof, of a shackle engageable with said lover, a casing into Which said shackle extends, combination lock elements provided in said casing for securing said shackle in operative posinaeaeao tion, means to regulate said elements to render them operative or inoperative to secure said sliackle, said casing having a removable cover, and means for detachably connecting said cover to the casing and located so that the cover can not be removed from the casing to enable said lock elements to be regulated When the shackle is engaged With said lever.
2. In combination with a fixed support and a lever, of a casing hingedly connected to said support, a shackle engageable With said lever, a rod hingedly connected to said shackle and extending into said casing, combination lock elements provided in the casing and engageable With said rod for releasably securing the shackle in its engaged position with respect to said lever, a co"ver for said casing, and means guarded by said lover when engaged by the shackle for detachably connecting said cover to the casing.
