SLIDING-noon smor.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Dian. 5,1918.
Application filed January 13, 1917. Serial No. 142,183.
To all whom 2'25 may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL S. CRAWFORD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Butler, in the county of Butlerand State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sliding-Door Stops; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full,'clear, and exact description of the invention, such as willenable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in door stops and the principal object of the invention is to provide a device adapted for use in connection with sliding doors which is adapted to allow the door to be slid out of the pocket in order that the pocket may be cleaned out thus avoiding the collecting of trash and dirt in the rear of the door. 7 7
Another object of the invention is to provide a device which when in a normal position limits the outward movement of the door and which when in operative position is arranged to allow the door to be entirely withdrawn from its pocket.
With these and other objects in view, this invention consists in the novel combination.
and arrangement of parts which will be fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a door frame showing the door slid out of its socket.
Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view through the door casing showing the doors in closed position.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail end view of the door showing the device in locked position. v
Fig. 4 is a horizontal sectional view on an enlar ed scale through a portion of the anism 5 by means of which it is locked in closed position. Secured t0 the rear end of each of the doors is a plate 6 having a stud 7 extending outwardly therefrom to which is pivotally connected by a suitable pivot screw 8 the turn button 9 which when in vertical position is adapted to turn through the opening 2; but when in horizontal posi tion engages the inner edges of the stud 2 in order to prevent the door from being withdrawn from the pocket.
Formed in the door in one of itsside faces and adjacent the plate 6 is a recess 10 having fitted therein a block 11 which is. re-
cessed as at 12 to receive a lever 13 which is pivoted as at 14 within said block and projects out through the rear end of the door as illustrated in Fig. 5. This lever carries at its forward end the pin 15 which is slidable through an arcuate slot 16 and is provided at its outer end with a thumb piece 17 by means of which the movements of the pin and lever are controlled.
Formed near the inner end of the lever is an o enin 18 havin secured therein the loops 19 of the links 20, the opposite ends of which is provided with a loop 21 which passes through an opening 22 formed in the turn button.
It will be apparent from the foregoing that in use the door when in normal operatlon is held against outward movement beyond a predetermined point by the engagement of the turn button 9 with the inner edges of the stud 2, however, when it is desired to gain admission to the pocket in order to clean the same or make any repairs, the button 17 is moved downwardly thereby causing the lever to swing on its pivot and move the turn button into vertical position thereby allowing the door to be withdrawn, in this way it will be seen that access to the interior of the pocket will be had through the door opening so that any'matter which may have collected therein may be removed. While in the foregoing there has been shown and described the preferred embodiment of this invention, it is to be understood that such changes may be made in the combination and arrangement of parts as will fall within the spirit and scope of the ap-' pended claims. 7
What is claimed is: r .1. A device of the class described comprising the combination with a sliding door having a recess therein, a block fitted in said recess, said block provided with a recess, a turn button rotatably secured to theinner edge of the door at one side of the recess, a
lever pivotally mounted in the recess of the block, a flexible means connecting the outer end of the lever With the turn button, and means connected to the inner end of the lever and extending through the side of the door to permit the turn button to be moved in a plane vertical with or at right angles to the rear edge of the door, as and for the purpose specified.
2. A device of the class described comprising the combination with a sliding door having a recess adjacentthe rear edge thereof said recess opening out through the rear edge thereof, a block fitted 1n said recess,
said block having a recess opening out through the rear edge oi the door, the rear wall of the recess being arcuate, a lever pivotally mounted intermediate its ends with a Copies of this patent may be obtained. for
recess adjacent the forward or mouth end thereof, a turn button pivotally secured to the rear edge of the door and on one side of the recess, a flexible connection connected to the outer end of the lever and to the turn button, and a handle carried by the inner end of the lever and extending through one side face of the door to permit the turn button to be moved in a plane vertical with or at right angles to the rear edge of the door, as and for the purpose specified.
