,To all whom it may concern:
Be it 4known that4 I, OTTO JAEGER, a citi- Zen of the United States, anda resident of Elkins Park, county of Montgomery, and State of Pennsylvania, haveV invented cerf tain new and useful Improvements in `Coinior the reception ot the coin or coins in payment for the special order, and where the attendant, upon the receipt of the order, delivers to the customer, through a suitable opening in' thel wall, a suitable key to be used by the customer to open a suitable device to obtain the food after the order has been filled.
rlhe object of my invention is to provide a coinreceiving device of novel, simple and `eilicient construction adapted to receive a `coin or coins from the customer and conduct or guide the coin or coins to a suitable closed receptacle,` and having provision, iirstly, whereby the coin or coins may not be removed from the device by the attendant receiving the order,.secondly, whereby the movementof the coin or coins through the device to the receptacle is temporarily arrested, thirdly, whereby the attendant may view the temporarily arrested` coin or coins to see that they are correct and to thereby receive the special order, and, fourthly, whereby the attendant may, by moving a part of the device by hand, release the temporarily arrested coin or coins and thereby permit them to pass into the receptacle.
Vith this object in view, my invention consists in the novel construction and com binations of partshereinatter described and claimed. l

Referring to the drawings, 2 designates a :trame structure which may be of any forni and size :for its intended purpose. The frame structure 2 includes a partition wall L adapted to separate the customer from the attendant of the machine.` rThe wall 4E is provided witli a coin slot lf into which` the coin or coins are inserted` by the customer from a position in front of the wall 4.
Extending downwardly from the slot 7 is a coin guide 8 which is inclined, as shown,
y and'which is adaptedfto receivethe coins inserted intothe slot 7. The coin guide 8 comprises a bottom wall `9, side walls 10, extending upwardly from the sides of the bottom wall 9, and flanges 11 extending inwardly from the top of the `.side walls l0. The space between the side walls 10 is slightly greater than the diameter of the coins to be inserted into the slot 7 andthe space between the bottom` wall 9 and the flanges l1 is slightly greater than the thickness oi the said coins, the walls 9v and l0 and flanges ll being so related. to eachother as to permit the coins inserted into the slot 7 to descend freely by gravity through the guide S and to prevent the removal of the coins from the guide S after they leave the slot 7.
The coin guide 8 entends from thefsl'ot 7 to a closed coin receptacle 12 having a slotV or opening` 13 therein in registry with the lower end ofthe guide 8, whereby coins descending through the guide `8 may enter the receiitacle l2 through the slotA or openingI 13..l iThe upper end of the, coin guide 8 is secured to a bracket 1,4 which is securedA to the 'wall 4; and the lower end of the guide y 8 is securedto the receptacle 12by means of a bracket'15 which embraces the guide v8 and the receptacle 12 and which is secured thereto by suitable screws.
TheV ends of the flanges 11. of the coin guide 8 adjacent to the receptacle 12 are cut awayV to expose to view the full 'face or faces of one or more coins when they reach posi- -tions adjacent tothe receptacle 12 as they descend through the guide 8. The lower end portion of the guide 8 where the flanges 11 are cutaway to expose-the coins is covered by a transparent panel 16 of glass or other suitable .material through which theV coins may be seenand which rests upon the guide 8. The panel is contained Within grooves in a suitable frame 17. The frame 17 is provided with a bracket 18 which extends downwardly therefrom and around the bottom of Vthe guide 8 and has' its respective ends attached to thesidesof the vframe 17, thereby inclosing the guide 8 between the bracket 18 and the frame' 17 and panel 16. The frame 17 and its panel 16 are secured to the guide 8 by a thumb screw 19 screwed into and through the bracket 18 and engaging the bottom of the guide 8.
/ The receptacle 12 is provided with a coin arresting meinber20 adjacent to the lower end of the coin guide 8 and comprising a part or arm 21 located within the receptacle 12, an arm 22 located-outside the receptaclel 12fand a pivot shaft' 23 extending through the wall of the receptacle 12 and to which the arms -21wand 22lare secured. The arm 22 is provided witha pin2-1 which extends therefrom adjacent tojone side of the receptacle 12 and rests againstV the same when the member 2() is restingin its normal position shown in full Y lines in the drawings. In this normal position of the member 20, the
i part or arm 21 of the member extends upwardly and bars the opening 13 connecting the guide 8 with the receptacle 12 and arrests the downward movement of the coins descend by gravity throughjthe coin guide 8 until the downward movement of the coin or coins, indicated at C, is arrested beneath the transparent panel. 16 by the part orarin v21. It will thus be seen that the said attendant can not remove the coins from the device and that they can only be removed from the rey ceptacle by the proper person provided with a key to unlock the door 27 I claim:

In a device of the character described, the combination of a frame structure having a coin slot therein, a downwardly inclined coin guide extending from said slot and'adapted to receive coins therefrom and guide'thein in their downward movement by gravity, said guide preventing the removal of coins therefrom and having an opening Vtherein through which coins may be seen, a
siibstantially vertically-arranged receptacle extending downwardly from the lower vend of said guide and adapted to receive coins therefrom, a shaft mounted to turn in a wall within the guide 8 before they enter the receptaclerand retains' the coins in the lower portion of the guide 8 beneath the transpaient panel 16. When the attendant raises the arm 22 and thereby moves the member 20 on lines in Fi.v 5, the part or arm 21 is moved away from the opening 13, thereby `releasing the coins within'the guide 8 and permitting themto descend by gravity andinto the receptacle 1/2. The coin receptacle 12 may beof any suit- ,-ableeonstruction. vAs herein shown it comprises a lower box-like portion` 25 suitably secured to-the frame structure 2A and having an upwardly lextending reduced portion 26 to which the lower end of the lcoin guide Sis of said receptacle, an arm secured on the inner end of said shaft, and means on'the outer end of said shaft to hold said arm normally in a position obstructing the lower end of said guide and preventing'coins from passing from the open end of said guide and into lits 'pivot 23 tothe position shown by dotted Y said receptacle, said means being operative to move said arm from its obstructing position.
