Be it known that I, CHARLES; S. LINooLN, a citizen of the United States, residing'at Wauwatosa2 in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wlsconsin, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Portable Crushers, of which the following is a specilication.
'llhis invention relates to improvements in the construction of portable Crushers and especially to height of the inlet openings of such crushers at a minimum without interfering with the conveyance of the crusher. i
An object of the invention is to provide a portable crusher which is simple in construction, ecient in operation, readily accessible for operation, and which may be one localit `to another. ne of the more specific o jects of the invention is to`provide a portable crusher outfit in which the height of the feed openings is reduced to a minimum. Another object is to provide a portable crusher in which the material to be crushed ma be fed to the Crushers from the ground y hand,v and without the use of intermediate elevating operations or devices. Still another' object is to provide means for permitting elevation or removal of portions of the device which normally project in proximity to the tread of the vehicle, away from said tread during conveyance of the vehicle, thereby preventing possible injury of these portions and permitting free conveyance of the crusher from one locality to another.
A clear conception of an embodiment of the invention may be had by'refer'ring to the drawings accompanying and forming a part of this specification in which like reference characters designate the same parts in the several views.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a portable crusher outfit embodying the features of the present invention and showing the position of the working parts during normal operation of the crushers.

The bucket elevator 2 comprises a series of buckets 17 secured to the conveyer belt or chain 21, which chain isadvanced during normal operation by means of a suitable sprocket drum l5 mounted upon the shaft 16. The upper end of the elevator 2 is supdrum mounted upon the shaft 19, this shaft 19 being supported in adjustable bearings 18 mounted in the uprights 20. rllhe adjustability of the' bearings 18 provides means for properly. tensioning the belt or chain 21.
The shaft 16 is mounted i-n the lower ends of a pair of manually movable levers 12, the` `locking cap-'screw which is secured to the frame of the truck, coacts. Une end of the shaft 16 is provided with a suitable driving pulley 22 which is connected by mea-ns of a belt 11 to a pulley on the jaw crusher actuatin shaft 10. The' jaw crusher actuating 10 is rotatable during normal operation, by means of a suitable motor and belting, not shown.
The buckets 17 of the elevator 2 are adapted to deliver their contents into a telescopic, pivoted spout 7, which in turn delivers to the feed hopper 8 of the rotary impact pulv'erizer 3. The discharge from the rotary impactpulverizer 3 is fed into the lower end of the helical screw conveyer i, which is adapted to elevate the material and to deposit the same into `a suitable receptacle or wagon.
With the device in normal operating condition, the lever 12 is in a vertical position as shown in Fig. l, thereby placing the actuating sprocket drum 15, the pulley 22 and the adjacent buckets 17 of the elevator 2, in close proximity to the ground line 9 forming the tread of the vehicle or truck 5. This location of the drum 15 and pulley 22 as low as possible, permits extreme lowering of the jaw crusher l and its discharging devices, so that the mouth of the jaw crusher is readily accessible for feeding from th ground line 9. In order, however,.that the drum 15, pulley 22 and adjacent buckets 17 do not form obstructions during conveyance of the portable outit, means must be provided for permitting elevation of the downwardly projecting portions during conveyance of the truck 5. This is accomplished by means of the lever 12, which lever after removal of the belt 11 and release of the locking capscrew within the slot 14, may be swung through an arc of ninety degrees in an anticlockwise direction, as viewed in Fig. 1,

When the lever 12 is in the position shown in Fig. 2, the cap-screw may again be tightened. and the drum 15, pulley 22, and the adjacent buckets 17, remain elevated to a suiicient height to give the desired amount of clearance between the working parts and the ground line 9 lto permit unobstructed conveyance of the truck 5.
If so desired, the spout 7 may be made to swing sidewise, thereby permitting shunting of the partially reduced material delivered by the jaw Crusher 1. To permit such operation, an increase in length of the bucket elevator 2 is necessary since it is preferable in shunting the jaw crusher discharge, to permit delivery of the shunted material into a wagon or other receptacle standing alongside of the portable Crusher outlit. The outfit disclosed in the drawing is arranged to permit shunting and ma)y be greatly reduced in overall height if this feature is to be eliminated. It should be noted that the portable outfit herein disclosed is especially applicable for the reduction of limestone and similar materials for agricultural purposes and that the elimination of preliminary handling of the material fed to the jaw crusher 1 in such equipments is of vast importance.
It should be understood that it is not desired to be limited to the exact details of construction shown and described, for obvious modifications will occur to a person skilled in the art.
It is claimed and desired to secure by Letters Patent 1. In combination, a vehicle, material supplying and receiving devices mounted upon and spaced apart longitudinally of said vehicle, a bucket elevator between said devices, said elevator comprising an upper sprocket, a lower sprocket mounted on a pivot arm and located when in operative position in proximity to the ground surface, and an endless carrier having substantially vertical stretches connecting said sprockets, means for moving said lower sprocket away from said materialssupplying means to swing it up away from the ground for transportation, and means for driving said elevator through said lower sprocket.
2. In combination, a vehicle, materialsupplying and receiving devices mounted upon said vehicle, a bucket elevator between said devices, said elevator comprising an upper spr0cket, a lower sprocket located when in operative position in proximity to the ground surface, and an endless carrier having substantially vertical stretches connecting said sprockets, means for movinfr said lower sprocket independently of said upper sprocket and relatively to said material-supplying means and away from the ground for transportation, and means for driving said elevator through said lower sprocket.
