SILO-PACKER.
I Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 19, 1918.
, Application filed June 7, 1917. Serial No. 173,379.
To all whom it may concern:
will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, ref erence being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates tov new and useful improvements in silo packing and consists of a simple and efiicient apparatus of this nature having various details of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claims. Our invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of the application and in which Figure 1 is a central sectional view through a silo showing the application of my invention.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view on line 22 Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a cross section on line 3-3 of- Fig. 1.
Fig. 4: is a sectional View on line H of Fig. 1.
Fig. 5 is a detailed view of a hook.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by numerals, 1 designates a silo and 2 is a socket mounted in the bottom row and in which a ball bearing 3 is lo cated. 4c is a shaft, the lower end of which is journaled in said socket and against the hearing 8. Shaft 1 is angular in cross section and its upper end is journaled in a boxing 5 carried on the shaft 6, which is journaled in bearings 7 at the walls of the silo. A beveled gear wheel 8 is fixed to the shaft 1 and is in mesh with the beveled gear 9 keyed to the shaft 6. Power is transmitted to the shaft 6 through the medium of the sprocket chain 10 and wheels 11 and 12 the latter of which is fixed to a counter shaft 13, having keyed thereto a driving pulley 1%;
Splined to the shaft 4; is a cylindrical member 15 which has a beveled end 16 to which are secured the bars 17 having hooked ends 18 attached to the chains 19 which in turn are fastened to eyes 20 at the outer ends of the rods 21 the latter having their inner ends formed into hooks engaging eyes 22 upon a collar 23 fixed to the cylinder 15. Said rods 21 have a seriesof fangs 24 of different lengths and spaced apart and which serve as rake teeth. Two oppositely disposed rollers 25 are mounted to rotate upon the rods 26 the inner ends of which form eyes and are hooked to eyes 27 upon said at the ends of the bars 30, which latter are secured to the beveled head 16 of said cylinder.
The operation of my invention will be readily understood as follows:
After the ensilage is placed in the silo it is leveled off by the rake teeth, as the shaft 4B is given a rotary movement the rollers serving as means for packing down the ensilage and serving to raise the cylinder as additional ensilage is placed within the silo, the roller turning upon the upper surface thereof.
By the provisions of the apparatus embodying the features of my invention, it will be noted that the parts are automatic in their action, causing the ensilage to be evenly built up within the silo until the cylindrical member upon the shaft reaches its highest limit.
What we claim to be new is 1. In combination with a silo, a vertically disposed rotatable shaft mounted therein, a movable member upon said shaft and rotating therewith, rods connected to said member and having rake teeth thereon, arms upon said member, and connections between the arms and the outer ends of said rods causing the latter to rotate with the arms, horizontally disposed rollers carried by said member.
2. In combination with a silo, a vertically disposed rotatable shaft mounted therein, a cylindrical member mounted loosely and having a beveled top, arms fastened thereto, rods pivotally connected to In testimony 71131 120 f -x jvr-z herp qnto affix siidfniernb er' and having rsrkje tth thereon, {duri signatnres in presence oftwo witnesses.
