Description

0. Nil SHECK. ADJUSTABLE LAMP BRACKET.
APPLICATION FILE D JULY 7. I917.
Patented Feb. 19; 1918 UNITED STATES PATENT orrios'.
OSCAR MI. BHECK, OF CLEVELANIS, HIO, ASSIGNOB TO THE ARGUS LAMP AND APPLIANCE COMPANY, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
ADJUSTABLE LAMPJ'B'ILAGKET.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 19, 1918.
Application filed July 7, 1817. Serial No. 179,275.
\ State of Ohio, have invented wrtain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Lamp-Brackets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to lamp brackets, and more particularly to the supporting means or brackets for what are commonly known as spot-lights employed for stage lighting. In ractice the spot-light apparatus is genera ly located in a desirable position off the stage, usually in the front of the balcony ofthe auditorium, the purpose being to project light rays in a field confined to a spot. the area and location of which, relative to the otherwise darkened stage is governed by the. adjustments of the apparatus and t1" e lamp. which is a part thereof.
The lamp houses in encral use for pet lighting have an oscil ating and a 'tfliing mo vemenf already present invention re ates to a lamp bracket having certain adjustments relative to the lam {fuse and lens.
T e object of the invention is to provide [simple and economical means f or easily and quickly focusing andotherwise adjusting the lamplto meet requirements not provided for by t e tiltin or other movements of the lamp house, an to provide a construction of bracket that can-,b readily applied to him houses already installed, with but slig t alteration to said houses. With these objects in view the invention consists in the.
construction, arrangement and combination of the parts as hereinafter described and pointed out definitely inthe claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of the specification, and in which similar characters of reference are :em loved to designate similar parts.
'rovided for, and the vof the member 7 to contract an simpler and more economical and (:rnncliient construction, as will readily be Slt'll.
Referring now to the several figures of the drawing, 1 represents a socket supporting member or head, to which the ordinary lamp socket 2 is attached. The suplorting head 1 is made of suitable insulating material and is provided with a tubular stern A bifurcated base plate, --r track 4 is adapted to be secured to ti: floor of the lamp house, and a block 5 provided with parallel longitudinal-channels 5 is slidably connected with said track, the channels 5 aoeomn'iodating the branches 4, said branches forming ways on which the block slides. A set screw 6 provides means for lockin the block 5 to the track 4 at any desire longitudinal location.
A tubular member or sleeve 7 is firmly al.- tachcd to the block 5 and depends therefrom between the members 4. The bore of the sleeve 7 accommodates the stem 3, the said stem extendin and having a s iding fit therein. The lower terminal of the member 7 is split as shown at 7, and is provided witha tapered thread 7 on which is threaded a knurled nut 8, said nut of course having a tapered thread to fit the thread on member 7.
It will readily be seen that with the nut. 8 threaded downward on the taper 7" the stem can be raised or lowered in the bore of the sleeve 7, and when the said stem is at the desired elevation the'nut 8 being tightened on the thread 7" will cause the lit portion clamp the stem 3, thereby" retaining the stem as adjusted and thus provide vertical adjustment to the lamp 9. p
The electric conductors a. and b which are operatively connected with the lamp socket extend throu h suitable a ertures in the insulated hea l and pass t irough the bore 3 of the stem.3.
The device provides simple univcrsal'adjustment and the sleeve member 7 provides a convenient means for manually operating the block in its slidin adjustment on the track member 4 when t e set screw 6 is not binding on said plate.
' What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is.
1. In an adjustable lamp bracket the combination of a supporting block provided with channels; permanent track members entirely through said bore extending through said channels and on which said block is slidable; a sleeve attached to said block between the track'memhers; a lamp socket base provided with a tubular stem which passes through said sleeve, the free end of said sleeve being split and provided with a. tapered thread; and a nut operative on said tapered thread.
'2. In an. adjustable lamp bracket the combination of a supporting block provided.
with channels; permanent track members extending through said channels and on which said block is slidable; means for clamping said block to the track; a sleeve attac ed to said block between the track members; a"lamp socket base provided with
