PATENT OFFICE.
RICHARD DREHER, OF MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN.
IMPROVEMENT IN BEER-COOLERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 125,668, dated April 16, 1872.
SPECIFICATION.
I, RICHARD DREHER, of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee, in the State of Wisconsin, have invented certain Improvements in Beer-Coolers, of which the following is a specification:
Nature and Object of the Invention.
My invention is for cooling beer, and is an upright apparatus, constructed in two separate parts and hooked together, so as to form one cooler when in use, and is made of several semi-eylinders,with a communication between the two series of cylinders. One side of the apparatus is fixed so as to stand in an upright position, and the other side, when it wants to be cleaned, to be let down. This side is fastened with a bolt at the bottom on which it swings out, and a couple of braces on this movable side will hold it up in an inclined position when cleaned.
Description of the Drawing forming part of the Specification. Figure 1 is a perspective view of my invention; and Fig. 2, a vertical section.
General Description.
A, the endsof the apparatus; B, semi-cylinders, secured to the inside ends A 0, waterpipes'in the heads A, leading from one set of side semi-cylinders to another. These pipes are on each end of the apparatus, the water passin g in at one end of the semi-cylinders and through to the other end, and then through pipes O to the next above, and so on, alternately, till it gets to the top and out through pipe 0; D, reservoir on top of the cooler to receivethe beer to be cooled. This reservoir has holes in it through which the beer passes to another reservoir under this one, with holes in it to let the beer fall on the outside and inside of the cooler, so that the beer shall run down on both the outside and inside of the same. E, couplings on the water-pipes N and O; F, projection with teeth on it to convey the beer and bring it in contact with the inside of the semicylinders; G, basin to catch the beer when it falls from the semi-cylinders; H, woodbottom which sustains the cooler; I, pipe to carry oh the beer after it is cooled; K, openings or holes through the head to convey air to the inside of the semi-cylinders; L, hooks which hold the two sides of the' apparatus together; M, bolts which'hold the loose side to the stationary side, and on which the moving side swings when the apparatus is opened to be cleaned; N, pipe to convey water to the bottom of the cooler; O, pipe through which the water passes oif from the top of the cooler; P P, braces for the side of theeooler to rest on when it is let down to be cleaned; Q Q, outside ends of the cooler fastened on with screws, (with packing under them,) so that they may be taken off to get at the inside of the cooler to clean it.
The operation of this cooler is as follows: As the beer when it enters the reservoir D, passes through the perforated holes on the inside, into the under reservoir, and this under reservoir having two sets of holes, one on the outside of the semi-cylinders and the other on the inside, the beer passes through these holes falling on the projection F on the inside, and is carried round on the inside of the semi-cylinders till it reaches the bottom, and the beer falling on the outside runs to the bottom into basin G. The water passing in at the bottom through pipe N cold, and out through pipe 0 at the top warm by the heat from the beer.
Claim.
I claim as my invention- 1. A beer-cooler made in two sections, with projections F for the beer to fall onto on the inside, one section hung by a pin or hinge at the bottom, so that it may be turned down to be cleaned, substantially as described.
2. Ends Q Q secured to the semi-cylinders B, made removable, for the purpose specified.
RICHARD DREHER.
