UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ANDREW J. KEYES, OF SOUTH GLENS FALLS, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR OF TWO-THIBDS OF HIS RIGHT TO GUSTAVUS A. PRESCOTT AND BART- LETT OHARA.
lMPROVEMENT IN SAW-TOOTH SWAGES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 125,576, dated April 9, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANDREW J. REYES, of South Glens Falls, in the county of Saratoga and in the State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Saw- Sharpener; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specifica. tion.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a saw-sharpener, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which-- Figure 1 is a side view, part in section, of my saw-sharpener. Fig. 2 represents a sawtooth before, and Fig. 3 after, it has passed through the sharpener.
A represents a block or frame with a slot or mortise, a, through itfor the passage of the saw. In the lower end of this block or frame is pivoteda lever, B, having a notch B, in one By means end to receive the back of the saw.
. of this lever the saw is raised up and held so that each tooth in succession may be brought on the die 41 placed in the upper end of the frame. An eccentric, 0, provided with a handle, D, is then brought down upon the point of the tooth, which widens and sharpens it. In Fig. 2, at E, is shown the shape of the point of the tooth before it has gone through the sharpener, the point being then as wide as the entire tooth, and blunt. After the eccentric O has pressed it against the die the point is flattened, becoming wider than the body of the tooth, and sharp, as shown at f, Fig. 3.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the fi'ame Awith slot a, lever B pivoted to the lower end of the frame A with notch b, die d, and eccentric G with handle D, all substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 9th day of December, 1871.
