tion, reference being had to the accompany ing drawing, forming a part thereof.
rlhe lnaln objects of this invention are to produce sanitary sheet metal cheese hoops without riveted or lapped joints forming creviees Vin which dirt can lodge; to facilitate drainage of the whey fromthe curd while it is subjected to pressure in such hoops; to facilitate cleansing the hoops; to hold the banda-ge cloth securely in place in the hoops during the preliminary pressing operation without cutting or mutilating the same; and generally to improve the construction and operation of metal cheese hoops.
It consists in the construction7 arran` enient and combination Vof parts as herein after particularly described and pointed out in the claims. 4
lln the accompanying drawing like characters designate the same parts in the several figures. l
Figure l is an axial section in a plane indicated by the line l-1, Fig. 25 of a complete metal cheese hoop embodyingvthe invention, andv a part of another like hoop inserted therein; Fig. 2 is a cross section'on ithe line 2-2, Fig. 1 Fig. 3 is a similar section on the line 3-3, Figfl and Fig. 4 is a partial section of the follower on the line 4:-4, Fig. 2.
rlhe hoop, which is made of heavy sheet metal, comprises a tapering body Section a, formed at its larger endwith an outturned flange 5, a cylindrical top section c, butt weldedat one end t0 the topof. the flange b next to itsperiphery, and a perforated bottom section c, butt welded inside the body section at its smaller end.. rlhe Hangs b, which is primarily made of a little larger diameter than the top'section c, so as to project slightly beyond its outer face, is fused overthe ad joining edge of the top .section c,to'strengthen Specification of Letters Patent.

and insure closing the joint between them.
`ln like manner the bottom edge of the body section is made to project slightly below the lower face ofthe bottom section e, and vis fused inwardly over the joint between them, 5 as shown in Fig. l. Both sections a and c are made from flat pieces of sheet metal, opposite edges of which are brought together in shaping them to the desired form and are butt welded in longitudinal seams d, thus avoiding lapped joints and crevices in which dirt can lodge, and producing continuous unbroken surfaces both inside and outside p of the hoop, which can be easily kept clean and ina perfectly sanitary condition.
The body section a, is provided with an external bearing ring or shoulder f, and on vopposite sides with metal handles g, which are welded thereto so as to avoid crevices in which dirt can lodge.
The .hoop is provided with the usual elastic split bandage holding sleeve it, which is removably fitted in the top section c and adapted to bear at its inner end against the internal shoulder formed by the flange b at the junction of the body and top sections, as shown .in Fig. l. This sleeve is made somewhat wider or of greater depth than the top section 0, so as to project therefrom when its inner end bears against said shoulder. It is made flaring at its outer end, as shown in Fig. l, to facilitate the insertion of the folq lower as hereinafter explained.
The hoop is also provided with a one-piece follower i, preferably made of aluminium 85 or other non-corrosive metal. It is formed with an `upturned marginal flange and a peripheral groove in which a packing ring j, of rubber or other suitable elastic material, is fitted and held to form a tight joint between the follower and the sleeve 7L, through which it is guided into the upper or larger end of the body section a, in the operation of the hoop.
