Specification of Letters Patent.
DISK-HARROW BOXING.
Patented Jan. 29, 1918.
Application filed June 17, 1916. Serial No. 104,196.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE N. PALSER, a citizen of the United States, residing at North Loup, in the county of Valley and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Disk- Harrow Boxings; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a bearing box for use upon disk harrows and the primary object of the invention is to provide a bearing box which is constructed so that it may be quickly and easily opened for removing the wooden bearing sleeves from the interior of the same for the purpose of replacing a w orn bearing sleeve with a new one, and also so that it may be quickly and easily disconnected for permitting of the detachment of the gangs of disks from their supporting structure, when it is desired to store the disk harrow in as small a space as possible.
lVith the foregoing and other objects in view this invention consists in such novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and claimed.
In describing the invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters designate like and corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:
Figure 1 is a fragmentary perspective view of a harrow showing the improved bearing box applied thereto. b Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the bearing Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section through the bearing box.
Fig. 4: is a vertical cross section through the bearing box.
A spring latch plate 20 is carried by a bolt 21, which extends upwardly from the upper end of the bearing box through the center of the projection 7 and out through the top plate 22 of the projection as clearly shown in the drawings. The spring or resilient latch plate 20 is provided for engagement with the upper end of the locking lever 16 for holding it in a locking position so as to prevent its accidental shaking free or loose by the harrowing action of the disks. A hitch bar 22 is connected to the bolt 21 by means of a rolled end 28 which is loosely mounted about the portion of the bolt which is positioned within the open space 24 formed in the projection 7.
The usual type of lubricating cup or tube 26 is, provided which communicates with the interior of the bearing or box and the box has the usual wooden bearing sleeve 27 positioned interiorly of the same.
lVhen the sections 8 and 13 of the bearing box structure 9 are held closed, the arms 15 extend upwardly along the ends or sides of the ear 11, and the lever 16, owing to the fact that it is pivotally connected to the arms intermediate its ends, as at 17, will when in an upward position force the ear 11 downwardly against the ear'lt, and tend to force the ear 1 1 upwardly against the ear of the bearing box in a locking position so that they may be quickly and easily disconnected and opened for the purpose of replacing the wooden bearing sleeves 27, or for disconnecting a gang of disks 3 from the supporting structure of the disk harrow when it is desired to store the same.
In reducing the invention to practice, certain minor features of construction, Combi nation and arrangement of parts may necessitate alterations to which the patentee is en titled provided such alterations are comprehended within the scope of what is claimed.
\Vhat is claimed is v 1. In a disk harrow boxing structure, the combination with a pair of pivotally connected bearing members, of a substantially inverted U-shaped extension formed upon one of said members, a bolt attached to and extending through said extension, and a hitch bar pivotally mounted upon said bolt.
In a disk harrow boxing structure, the eoi'nbination with a pair of pivotally connected bearing members, of a substantially inverted U-shaped extension formed upon one of said members, a bolt attached to and extending through said extension, a hitch bar pivotallv mounted upon said bolt and positioned between the bight portion of said inverted U-shaped extension and the member upon which the extension is formed, and an attaching plate resting upon said inverted U-shaped extension and attached thereto by said bolt.
U-shaped extension formed upon one of said members, a bolt attached to and extending through said extension, a hltch bar pivotally mounted upon said bolt, a locking lever for holding sald members 111 a closed shaftsupporting position, and means carried by said bolt for engaging said lever to hold it against accidental movement.
4. In a disk harrow boxing structure, the combination with a pair of pivotally connected bearing members, of a substantially iIIXGltGCl U-shaped extension formed upon one of said members, a bolt attached to and extending through said extension, a hitch bar pivotally mounted upon said bolt and positioned between the bight portion of said inverted U-shaped extension and the member upon which the extension is formed, an attaching plate rest upon said U-shaped extension and attached thereto by said bolt, a
locking lever for holding said member in a closed shaft supporting position, and means carried by said bolt for engagmgh said lever to hold it against accidental movement.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
